Five hundred thousand people for a championship parade is completely embarassing.

I am no hater at all. Kobe and the Lakers deserved this title 100%, but 500,000 people at a parade is a complete joke.

coliseum does not have 500k capacity...which I think GTC was referring too

I know the coliseum does not have 500k capacity. I was talking about total attendance.... In the streets and the coliseum if that only comes to 500,000 people then that is one sad championship parade.

I didn't either, I was just taking a little dig at gtc b/c he's so loved around here.

But let's assume for a moment that that number is relatively accurate. Why in the world would that number be "a joke" ?

Is the Rose Parade a joke? (Commonly estimated by organizers between 700k and 1 million, but most people claim those figures to be impossibly high).

Here's an interesting read on the subject:

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/readers/2009/01/rose-parade-big.html

An excerpt:

Here is reader Apanel's methodology based on his Doo Dah experience: "The route is 5.5 miles long, or 29,040 feet. So, if you allowed two feet per person, for spectators standing shoulder-to-shoulder, it would take 29,040 people to form one row of spectators along both sides of the entire parade route. Therefore, to have 700,000 people in attendance, you'd need to have 24 rows of people, packed together like sardines, on both sides of the entire parade route. And even when you factor in bleacher seating, which accounts for perhaps 100,000 people, at best, that would still require 21 rows of people standing along both sides of the parade route. Obviously, that's physically impossible, and, just as obviously, the density of the crowd, with all the chairs, coolers, blankets, and other gaps, comes nowhere near maximum density.

PS: Parades are gay. :toast:

What I want to know is where the hell was Jerry Buss?? He wasn't at the parade. He wasn't in the colliseum. And remember, he wasn't even there at the end of the championship game to receive the trophy??? WTF???
