Three comeback. Bats getting hot. Can the Cubbies do anything this year or should we expect another collapse? Who in the NL can give them a run?
Obvioulsy not a big bases fan so Im looking for some intelligent perspective. I live Chicago and work in the Loop where the Cubs are always the water cooler topic. I dont follow bases that much so any insite would be appreciated. Plus I can win few wagers off my fellow office clowns such as Quiznos subs for a week or Starbucks! Can ya help a nerd out?

It's hard to say with the Cubs; there are so many distractions in Chicago and the pitching has a differant make-up this year.

But...in baseball, you never know (look at the "Rays" last year).

Cubs can definitely take the NL Central. They're only 2.5 games out, and that's been with Aramis Ramirez out of the lineup since early May. Milton Bradley is finally starting to hit, though he only has 3 RBIs in his last 19 games. Overall, they have a decent balance between hitting and pitching. I'm not sure if I trust Kevin Gregg as a closer, but Milwaukee is weak on starting pitching and the Cardinals lineup can be shutdown, so they should contend into late September. The Cubs have been underachieving all year, and with Guzman going on the DL yesterday, I'd wait till after the All-Star break to take them seriously.

Can they lose 8 in a row????

Davis will try to help the Cubs avoid their first eight-game skid since May 17-25, 2009, while Cincinnati’s Jonny Gomes(notes) will try to hit his third homer in as many games against Chicago.
