The San Antonio Spurs are in serious discussions with the Milwaukee Bucks for forward Richard Jefferson(notes), league executives told Yahoo! Sports on Tuesday.
The proposed deal would have the Spurs send send veterans Bruce Bowen(notes), Kurt Thomas(notes) and Fabricio Oberto(notes) to the Bucks, who are looking to shed the remaining two years, $29.2 million on Jefferson’s contract for the Spurs’ expiring contracts.
The deal isn’t completed, but league executives say both teams appear motivated to get it done.
Jefferson is the athletic, scoring forward that Spurs have craved to complement the aging tandem of Tim Duncan(notes) and Manu Ginobili(notes). The Spurs have been pursuing the New Jersey Nets Vince Carter(notes) too, but it appears Jefferson is the deal that they can make now.

After arriving in Milwaukee last summer from New Jersey, Jefferson averaged 19.6 points for the Bucks last season.
Bowen, 38, has been a staple of the past three Spurs championships and one of the NBA’s most dogged defenders.

41 years of cheering for the Bucks and the time may be here to officially retire my allegiance. Horrible owner, staff and coach, small market..Now who will it be..Magic or Heat..

great move by the bucks

absolutely. they weren't going to be anything special with Jefferson next year, although he will help the Spurs. All three of those guys the Bucks get have contracts that will expire next year. The Bucks save enough this year to re-sign Villanueva or Sessions. Whoever they draft Thursday will determine which one of those guys they re-sign.
Then next year, they will have a lot of bad paper off their hands. They won't be in the running for the major free agents, but they will be able to make moves.
Skiles and John Hammond are starting to clean up the mess. Maybe someday the Bucks will make the playoffs.

Duncan, Manu, Parker, & Jefferson. Good lineup

its slightly better, but the bucks still got the better end of the deal.

RJ is past his prime imo. Sessions, the guy milwaukee needs to resign is way better then him. So is Charlie V.

In the NBA and their watered down league, of course they could make the playoffs..Shit thye could be under .500 and make it..I was not geeked up about RJ as he just came along as we dumped another contract. They had no intention of keeping him this year..but don't kid yourself they will never be in the 1st tier free agent market. They will get scaps and when they do develop a good player, think they will pay to keep them??..NO WAY..this has gone on for the past 10 years and nothing will change.

Go Pack!

Expiring contracts are ok but they should have got some draft picks to help them in the future.

Jefferson one of the more underrated players in the league.

If Duncan has enough left, they will challenge the Lakers now in the West......
