HOME TEAM IN CAPS
All games are listed pitchers unless stated otherwise.

<o:p></o:p>Cleveland +1.16 over PITTSBURGH (1st 5 innings)<o:p></o:p>
Carl Pavano will go on nine days rest here after he was rocked in his last two starts. The reports are that Pavano was suffering from a stiff neck so hopefully the extra few days rest will do him good. Remember, Pavano had a nice run of starts before his last two efforts especially on the road where his BAA is .253. In fact, in 40 road innings, Pavano has walked just 12 hitters while striking out 40 and in his last road start at Chicago against the South Siders, he threw a three-hit, complete game shutout. Pavano has won his last four road starts against the White Sox, Rays, Red Sox and Tigers, the latter three arguably the best offenses in the business, he went at least six innings in all four games and didn’t allow more than three runs in any of them. Pavano will now take a huge step down in class from that trio and he wouldn’t be in there if we weren’t feeling good. The Indians have had a lot more success against lefties and will see one here in Zach Duke. Duke has decent numbers but there are concerns. First, his numbers in June suggest he’s losing steam big time. In four June starts covering 27 frames, Duke has allowed six jacks, 32 hits, 13 runs, a BAA of .314 and the most concerning of all, he’s struck out five lousy hitters. In fact, in two of those four starts he failed to whiff a single batter and all those things add up to a guy that’s feeling fatigued. Duke is ripe as hell to get beat and these Indians can definitely bash. Their problem is a bullpen that can’t hold leads and thus, I’ll play this one in five. Play: Cleveland +1.16 (Risking 2 units).<o:p></o:p>

agreed..making any kind of wager with this team past 5 innings is a dangerous proposition. That bullpen is one of worst I've ever seen.

So many factors contributed to the loss. Barmes had a runner on third with one out in the 3rd, 5th and 7th innings and failed to drive in the run all three times. Ian Stewart made two eighth inning blunders on bunts. Baseball can be frustrating but the thing I like about it more than any other sport is that the umps really don't factor in the results. Unlike football, basketball and hockey, where the refs, on subjective calls, decide at least 50-75% of all games.
