What are some of the basic coverages that are needed and some that I can probably do without?

I know many of you are well-versed on this topic and your assistance appreciated.

Thanks,

post #2 and #4 are all you need to know ..all 4 things are a must and only need.....comp/collision is a must need for your own protection ...it does not cost you much more and if you mess up and hit the wrong person or are accused of it...you will be sued and your credit will be tarnished for the mark.

Anybody have this happen ?

I've been with the Hartford for about 10 years. I shopped around for quotes from many companies ( need a new policy in about a month). Hartford quoted me about $1,000 a year on the net, but my renewal notice says about $1600.

Esurance quoted me about $900.

How do I know they will honor it, if I choose them ?

You need liability and should have uninsured/underinsured covg. Depending on your state no fault may be required (pays your medical bills and some states lost wages if you are injured in a car).

Comp (covers theft/vandalism/anything non collision related except animal hits ie deer) pays for your car and can be cheap. Collision pays for your car in a accident and may not be worth it beyond 5-7 year old auto. Price is very state sensitive, mid west and less populated area tend to be cheaper, gulf and highly populated areas more. Any specific questions feel free to pm me

I got into a fender bender on thursday. I found out my insurance covers 80% for car rental while in the shop. Or they will give me $10 a day for not using a rental.

hmmmm this is a tough 1 to decide:drink::drink:

If you can avoid an auto loan, that would be great. How is the public transport in Pitt?

Big 10, you will want liability, comp and collision...also UIM....as far as liability limits, get as much as you think you need to protect your assets...to the poster thats vehicle was totalled, you can negotiate and thats about it..or, you can go thru your company and see if u get a higher offer if u have collision coverage...if not u are at the other company's mercy...good luck

Thanks.

Right now we are paying $706 something, but I am going to see if I can change some of the coverages.

Presently have the following:

Liability 50/100 with Property Damage of 50
Personal Injury 5K
100 Deductible other than collision
1000 deductible collision
Emergency Road Side Service
Rental Reimbursement
Unisured/Underisured
Bodily injury 50/100 with PD of 50

Let me know what you think, is $706 reasonable, good, or bad.

Thanks.

id get rid of roadside assistance and get triple A and Id get rid of rental coverage...if a wreck is the other person's fault their co will pay your rental....in the long run its a losing proposition....the price youre paying isnt bad but you could lower it if u do the above..
