The Whales are coming to town for the 4th and some Philly Cheesesteaks.
Young Whales are going to enjoy the parade and Ceremonies near the Bell and Independance Hall.
My question involves getting around.
We are staying by the Airport-want to do the Parade-CherylCrow/Roots Concert and Fireworks. Where is the best place to see the FW-actually at the Art Museum?? How does one get from Penn's Landing to the Art Museum?? It says the concert is on the Ben Franklin-can we see the FW from there??

Also-taking in the Mets/Philles on Sunday

Thanks

Just asked the Wife, who is from around there.

She sayd a Cab/taxi would be the cheapest and easiest to get from Penn's landing to the Art museum.

You are talking about the Ben Franklin Parkway ?? and not the Bridge..

She said IF you can get to the Art Museum Early, and get to the top.
You will have a Great spot to see the Fireworks.

Not sure about the Eating tour ....
But you Do have to try some of the Best Philly Cheese Steaks

Pats Steaks is one of the Best. and since you are there, just cross the Street and Try Geno's as well.

I use to Love Geno's over Pats ( Totaly different snadwich ) But the last couple of times, didn't enjoy it. Less Meat and not as good anymore.
But always good to say you had Both.

Just don't fuck up on line.....You Order your Sandwich at One window, and Fries & Soda at another.

OH, BTW...have your Money out ready to pay ( they Don't like Hold ups )

Pats is at 9th & Passayunk

Yeah, Those were the 2 cheese steaks places I heard last time I went, I tried Genos. I hated it. One of the worst I had. I saw a new top 10 list for phillies, neither of those places were on there. Ill try the couple of the top ones...

I think the Old City is where I went last time. There were good crowds. I hated the bouncers. They shook me down on 2 different locations. I was with 2 girls, they let them in fine, they would say, you need dress shoes, and I would be like this is ridculous. I was dressed nicely. They would then ask for 20-30 dollars, or I wasn't allowed in. I may go back, but I am not paying a bouncer who randomly pockets money from patrons....

Love to hear move places to go...

Top 3 Cheesesteaks in Philly:

The Pork Shack on Delaware and Snyder
Jim's Steaks 4th and South
Tony Luke's Front and Oregon.

Genos and Pats get all of the publicity because they are the most commercial.

Whale - Your best bet like betallsports said is to take a cab. But make sure you get there early. It will definitely get crowded.

Defying- If you are looking for good places to grab a casual drink.

Go to South Street: Try Kildares its a very relaxed Irish Pub

If you are looking for a sports bar then go to Chicki and Petes its on 1526 Packer Avenue and is right down the street from the stadiums.

Also if you are going to the Parkway for the concert there is an awesome Irish Pub close to their call the Tir Na Nog at 1600 Arch Street

Other spots I recommend you checking out.

Drinkers Tavern on Front and Market - A great bar that sells One dollar pabsts and 40's of High Life that you can drink at the bar. Of course they have the regular beers but its a great spot and it has the best Juke box in all of Philly if you like Rock and Roll music. You can also do shotguns at the bar for two dollars.

Fat Tuesdays on South Street and order a Octane 190 if your looking to get drunk.

Copabanana on South Street if you like margaritas.

If your looking for a change of scenery go up to University City where (Drexel and U of Penn) is at and go to a bar called the New Deck Tavern on 3408 Sansom street.

If your looking for a great italian restaurant with very affordable prices go to Scannicchios at Broad and Porter.

If your looking for a great chinese restaurant go to the House of Chen on 932 Race Street hands down the best Chinese restaurant in Philly. Cheap and they give you tons of food.

If your looking for clubs or anything else just ask... born and raised in Philly.

The concert is on the parkway that leads up to the Art Museum. The parkway is a very very long street that leads up to the Art Museum and thats where the crowd will be. I think the concert is supposed to start at 8:30. Also the fire works will be going off at around 10:30 at the Art Museum.

We had a great trip
Did the whole historic trip on the 4th-got there early and got everything done-kids and wife loved it.
Went to CBP for the game and got 3 300 level tix for $50-not bad. Boys got Utley and Howard Jerseys and all was well. No fights--Mets fans had NOTHING to cheer for. Fat Joe Blanton-well I never knew he had it in him. Mets lineup was WEAK.
We went to Genos for dinner and we just got home within the hour.
Concert and FW went well and the city is VERY easy to get around. I love how all sports stadiums are in one place. We stayed at the Airport so we were 15 minutes from everything
Thx

That's great Whale I am glad you had a good time. Joe Blanton is hit or miss. He either goes 7 innings gives up 5 hits and 1 run or goes 4 innings gives up 10 hits and 5 runs. Did you like Genos?

Any random fun things to do at night. We are here now, did some tourist things, had a great time.. but from the 4th of July weekend, we need a couple day break from drinking.... any suggestions..

we are eating at both places you suggested. And I know we will go to several of the bars... we also heard good things about TIME, is that a good place. I think we are going there this week and listen to the jazz band....

only problem now is finding things to do at night that doesn't involve alcohol...

If you don't mind me asking what hotel are you staying at? Then I might be able to point you in the right direction as far as where you can walk around at.
