The Detroit Pistons have reached agreement with free-agent guard Ben Gordon(notes) on a five-year contract worth around $55 million, a source with knowledge of the talks told Yahoo! Sports Wednesday evening.
The Pistons are continuing to negotiate with forward Charlie Villanueva(notes) and are moving closer to an agreement.
July 8 is the first day free agents can officially sign contracts.
Gordon and Villanueva, who played together for a year at UConn, traveled to Detroit on Wednesday morning to meet with Detroit president Joe Dumars.

As a Bulls fan, I am thrilled. He is not worth that kind of commitment. As exciting of a streak scorer around, but just too much lacking and too selfish. Guards need to be able to guard these days.

They just added Charlie...

Villanueva, the seventh overall pick by Toronto in 2006 who has played all three of his NBA season with the Milwaukee Bucks, also agreed to a five-year deal. His contract is worth at least $35 million.

Gordon not the best ball-handler either.

Gordon can get points with the best of them, and when he is on, he is unstoppable. With that said, he sucks at pretty much every other aspect of the game. He can't dribble, he can't pass, and he can't play defense. Alot of money to pay for one dimensional player. Bulls will likely miss his scoring next season, however.

Gordon sick at filling it up..you need that type and he has that ability..the problem is under the scope in last 3 minutes of close games you need to defend..there hes a liabilty..Lets see who gets the head job there..If its Lambier he had better start thinking about the other end of the floor..

I have no idea what this team is doing.

I personally like watching Gordon play, but imo, he is best served on team that has true players maker or true PG.

He would do very well with a LeBron/Kobe, DWade, Paul, Rose type of guy on his team as they could set him up, as BOS has done with Ray Allen.

You will see that Gordon's success was partially predicated on Derrick Rose's ability to school anyone of the bounce. Detroit doesn't have that (AI, not anymore and too selfish a player).

Will they even use Gordon in a starters role?

They would have to play pretty small to do it.

1. Stuckey
2. Gordon
3. Rip
4. Prince
5. Villa

Ben Gordon is another version of the Microwave and I know that's why Dumars got him. Ben Gordon can come in any game and light it up quickly.
