Artest says he's signing with Lakers
Shaq can have LeBron. Ron Artest says he'll take Kobe.

Artest, whose versatility and toughness have made him one of the most coveted and combustible players in the NBA, told CBSSports.com Thursday that he's signing with the Lakers.

"I'm definitely going to L.A. -- to sign, yeah," Artest said in a phone interview. "Lakers, Lakers, Lakers. I'm in L.A. right now."

Artest said he met with Lakers owner Dr. Jerry Buss Thursday and previously had spoken with Lakers coach Phil Jackson. He was en route to his financial manager's office, where he planned to huddle on the phone with his agent, David Bauman, to finalize details.

Artest's exuberance -- he spent the whole summer in L.A., including several appearances at Lakers home games during the NBA Finals -- got ahead of the process a bit. Other teams that made overtures for Artest -- including the Cavaliers -- have not yet been notified that Artest is signing with the Lakers. (Consider them notified.) Bauman has spoken with Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak, but parameters have not yet been agreed to. Still, it's pretty clear where Artest is going.

"I don't really care about the money," Artest said. "I'll play there for nothing. ... L.A. was very interested in me, and they got me."

The rest of the NBA has NO CHANCE now..

Artest didnt even care about the money...said he would have plaed in LA for free....

The only question now is do they win the next 2 or 3 titles?

Definitely makes them better.

If Boston can sign Rasheed Wallace & Garnett & co. stay healthy next year they will be just as big of favorites to win it all as the Lakers woiuldnt you agree?

Artest wants to win. He's one of the greatest players in the NBA and one of the few who has ever put winning ahead of a huge contract. He should be commended.

Was really bummed that we were losing Ariza cause of his potential. Then I found out Artest is coming.

Fuck it. Chalk up the repeat baby!

you serious. the man just settled and signed for the MLE, and you think he is a cancer? If he is winning he is fine, and i think it's safe to say the Lakers will be winning. I think signing for that, allowing the Lakers to spend money elsewhere shows that he isn't all that bad of a guy. you should be happy jordy:party::party:

Ariza had a chance to get the same loot but for a longer contract and him and his agent laughed at it.

Mitch was not going to up the contract b/c he had RA in his back pocket wanting to join a winning team at all cost.

1 of my favorite players just joined my favorite team. It does not get any better then this...

Just sign Odom so I can enjoy the rest of the offseason.

Ariza to the rockets... i am guessing for the MLE. Ariza agent should be shot in the head.

He made Ariza lose his shot at staying with his home team where his family is located. He could have won another championship.

Now he is going to a the rockets who will not be a contendor without TMac, Artest, and Yao.

Stupid as move by Ariza Agent. What a dumb ass.
