HOME TEAM IN CAPS
All games are listed pitchers unless stated otherwise.
Toronto -½ +1.09 over NY YANKEES (1st 5 innings)
Roy Halliday vs Chien Ming Wang. Need I say more? Wang beat the Indians in his last start and beating the Indians these days is akin to beating Mike Tyson in a game of scrabble. It was Wang’s first win in a over a year. Wang is nowhere near the pitcher he was before he underwent foot surgery and the Jays won’t need many runs here against him for this ticket to be cashed. Halliday is the straight goods and never allows many. Halliday has posted a 1.91 ERA and three complete games in winning his last six starts versus New York. He has pitched back-to-back complete games against the Yankees, including Toronto’s 5-1 win on May 12. Overall he’s 16-5 with a 2.79 ERA in 33 appearances against the Yankees and those numbers are pretty much the same against everyone. It’s hard to imagine the Jays not being up after five innings with these two starters facing off. Play: Toronto in the first five innings -½ +1.09 (Risking 2 units). <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

FLORIDA -½ +1.01 over Pittsburgh (1st 5 innings)
Zach Duke is having a fine, fine year indeed but I gotta tell ya, I don’t know how he does it. I’ve watched this guy pitch many, many times and he does not impress me in the least. He’s living a charmed life in that balls have been hit right at guys and one has to believe his good fortune won’t last long. Remember, Duke is a career stiff with over 700 innings pitched and a career BAA of .300. He’s averaging one k every two innings and that’s a sure sign that the opposition is seeing the ball well off him. The Pirates have won just two of his seven road starts and it’s also worth noting that the Marlins are a strong 11-5 against southpaws at home. Andrew Miller is 2-0 at home with a 3.06 ERA and an impressive 1.104 WHIP. The Marlins lost the opener last night 7-4 and that was the Marlins first home loss in its last nine games. It says here they get to Duke early and expose him for what he is. Play: Florida -½ +1.01 in the first five innings (Risking 2 units). <o:p></o:p>

COLORADO –1½ +1.06 over Arizona
The D-Backs were shut out again last night and it’s not easy scoring zero runs in Colorado against Jorge De Las Rosa or anyone else for that matter. They’ve lost eight of its last nine games and own a team batting average of .242, which is even worse than it appears because they play at one of the friendliest hitters parks in the game. Now they’re being asked to keep it close against the always reliable Aaron Cook while they send out Yusmeiro Petit. Cook needs no introduction, as he went 5-1 with a 2.36 ERA last month and continues to come up with quality start after quality start. Petit needs an introduction. He was put on the DL with a strained shoulder in May and will make his first start since then. He’s allowed 33 hits, eight of those bombs, in just 24.2 innings. Petit made five rehab starts in June for the Reno Aces of the Pacific Coast League and his ERA over that stretch was 6.89. The minor-leaguers hit .311 off him. Here’s a guy whose confidence is shot, he couldn’t get minor-leaguers out, he’s coming off a shoulder injury that’s playing on his mind and he’ll be facing one of the hottest teams in the league and one of the best hitters parks. Can this one turn out any other way? I think not. Play: Colorado –1½ +1.06 (Risking 2 units).
