Wow a bunch of these guys have had serious declines in their career numbers the last five years. That would explain a lot for guys like:

Vernon Wells
Shawn Green
Alfonso Soriano
Nomar Garciaparra

Some of these guys went from stars to nobodies pretty much.

There was always talk in Chicago, where I am from, that at the time Prior was most likely juicing while he was with the Cubs and if not while at USC. Some of the Cubs names do seem to make a lot of sense to me because they had major years in the early 00's, got paid, then have been less productive. Derek Lee, had two great seasons with us and then his numbers gradually dropped. Moises Alou played a lot longer then most everyday players do. You can credit this to an awesome work ethic, pissing on his hands, or just the unknown. The rest of the cubs list at the least there are two major points that are consistent; all of these players below were extremely injury prone and there best numbers came pre-05.

I agree with the above statement that if at worst this list is BS it does bring up interesting conversation.

I think this list seems like it could be real. Just because Matt Clement isn't stacked doesn't mean he didn't juice. Zambrano has roid rage all the time.

the pitchers used hgh and roids to recover faster from outings. just cuz a guy wasn't ripped doesn't mean that he didn't use the stuff.

Lee wasn't even on the Cubs in 2003, he was on the team that beat the Cubs, and apparently only he and Pudge were roiders on that Marlins team?

This is not the list. Gene Orza told Jason Grimsley and David Segui that they were both on the list.

I never mentioned anything about 2003. My point was that Derek Lee has never been the same player since 2005. He went from averaging 31 homers a year for 6 consecutive seasons to only crossing 20 twice in the last 4 seasons. I love the guy too even when he was with the Marlins but there are questions to be asked and the numbers are there to ask them for us.

Well he's on pace for 30 right now after a slow start. And to say he averaged 31 is a little misleading as most of that was from 46 in '05. Aside from '05 he never hit more than 32. The 20 and 22 the last 2 seasons can be more attributed to the wrist injury in '06. That marked his power retreat which only right now he is starting to show power signs again. I don't see any reason to think Lee was a roider. I'm pretty confident he was not.

D2bets what I'm trying to say is not that he was a roider but that the distinct possibility that he was can be addressed to his statistics. You say that you are pretty confident he was not but you don't tell me why. What is your reason that you are confident he wasn't. Is it just the wrist injury? Because you say he is on pace for 30 homers this year but check back last year, same exact numbers, then he tapered with 5 the rest of the year.

Will you at least concede that 05 was most likely the last year of major juicing by a large percent of the players? Because if we establish that 05 was the peak of the ERA which many have argued then we can look at everything after that.

Here are his home runs for each year:

1,17,5,28,21,27,31,32,46,8,22,20,14

Now it's either career progression or something major changed after the 46 home run season while still playing a full schedule for 3 of the 4 seasons after.

It's a good argument either position you take. I lean more towards the performance enhancing side from 98-06 but I guess we will never know unless those lists become public and confirmed accurate
