i remember getting the internet in, i believe, 1997. We were one of the few families in town with it. I wish i had an entrepreneurial mind back then...would definitely be a millionaire by now....it was so "limited" back then. Our modem speed was 14.4. Took forever for a nudie photo to load up.

I couldnt even connect for free back then. The only access numbers were in state long distance, no available calling plan to cover it either

I remember getting 56 kbps and thinking it was the greatest

I honestly think some technologys will progess to the point advancement becomes useless.

I think stuff generally just becomes more sleek, affordable and offers more options.

TV for example; is pretty close to that right now. Once everything is full broadcast 1080p, how can the picture possibly be noticably better?!

It's interesting to see the bank of telephones. In 1995 I worked for a company that hosted an Internet Service Provider. We were the 3rd place in the city to have a T1 line. When people dialed the ISP they dialed into a separate modem for each user. If all the modems were busy the next person dialing in would get a busy signal.

I think the guy who owned the ISP (which was a separate company than the one I worked for) only had like 20 customers and 10 modems.

I think it was 94 when I had my first contact with the internet, we were talking to some guys in Idaho about crop drying procedures

access was mostly university to university, not much else

then again, recently I felt like an archaeologist.....I discovered perforated cards that belong to an uncle who passed away long away. (circa 1970s /berkeley)

I remember those days. You would get the top of the head, the face, then wait and wait for the good stuff to slowly scroll down.

Then the 500K movies were great too but again the waiting for the movie to load, anticipation!!!

Now you can stream full movies. Good stuff

I kind of miss the old days when love@aol was free showed everyones user name. It was so easy to hook up with cuties. Then it turned into these paid dating services that run 30$ a month and are virtually worthless.

Chat rooms were fun and not filled with spam bots like they are now

There was no invisible mode back in the day, if you were logged into messenger everyone can see you simple as that.

Lots out to make a buck on the internet these days. It's made some things better and a lot of other things worse.
