NY Yankees -1½ +1.30 over MINNESOTA PINNACLE<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
It took a little while but A.J. Burnett is finally starting to feel very comfortable in pinstripes. On May 12, after another rough outing, Burnett’s ERA was 5.36. Today his ERA is down to 3.83 and he’s gone four games in a row without allowing more than two runs. In 48 innings on the road the league is hitting just .224 off Burnett and he’s actually been very effective on the road all season long. The Yanks are hot as hell and they’re killing it right now with 11 wins in its past 13 games to move a season-best 15 games over .500 They’ve batted .302 while outscoring the opposition 89-53 during that stretch and they’ve also beaten the Twinkies five straight. Glen Perkins faced the Yankees on May 18 and retired only two batters while allowing six runs and seven hits in a 7-6 loss. The Yanks are 7-2 on the road against left-handed starters and Perkins has got to be feeling a little anxious about facing this wicked line-up right now. Yanks are so hot and so confident that scoring a bunch more here appears to be a very likely occurrence. Play: NY Yankees -1½ +1.30 (Risking 2 units).

Los Angeles -1½ +1.15 over NY METS PINNACLE
Well, I hate to kick a team when they’re down but damn, one has to wonder how in the world are the Mets going to compete here. This team is seeing one thing right now and it’s not the baseball. The all-star break is coming up in just a few days and these Mets are looking forward to that more than school kids are looking forward to the summer break. The Mets have scored one run or fewer in four of its last six games. They were in Philly this past weekend and scored a total of three runs against Moyer, Lopez and Blanton. They returned home last night to get shutout again and even in the unlikely case of them scoring two or three runs tonight, the Dodgers will likely double that and then some. You see, Oliver Perez makes his first start since May 2 after rehabbing patellar tendonitis in his right knee. Before that injury, Perez allowed 24 runs in 21 frames of work. Perez had one good outing in five starts and it came against the Padres. The other four opponents ripped him a new one and now he’s about to face the hot-hitting Dodgers, plus Man-Ram. Perez is wild, he’s fragile and he’s throwing for a team that cannot string two hits in a row together. Play: Los Angeles -1½ +1.15 (Risking 2 units).
