BALTIMORE –1.04 over Toronto http://www.pinnaclesports.com/?refer=xspwagers
This game is a pick’em, which suggests nobody has an edge but I really don’t see it that way at all. The Jays have lost 10 of 12, they have one of the league’s worst records over the past six weeks and the last time they were in here they were swept. The Orioles are playing good ball. They’re coming off a series win in Seattle and prior to that they played the Red Sox and Angels, arguably the two best teams in the AL. From June 13 to June 27, the O’s won nine of 13 games. As for the starters, well, in no way can you make an argument for Brett Cecil over Jason Berken. Berken’s minor-league numbers were a whole lot better than Cecil’s. At Triple-A Las Vegas of the Pacific Coast League, Cecil went 1-5 with a 5.69 ERA and a .273 BAA. At Triple-A Norfolk, Berken went 2-0 with a 1.05 ERA and a BAA of .211. Cecil was roughed up during Sunday’s 10-8 loss at Yankee Stadium. He was tagged for seven runs, nine hits with five walks in 3.2 innings and has a 9.42 ERA in his last four games since being recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on June 20. On the road, Cecil has allowed six jacks in 23 innings to go along with a .351 BAA and a horrific WHIP of 1.82. So, take your pick, play the Jays, who are in the midst of a serious funk and that has a very fragile and ineffective young rookie going. Or play the Orioles at home, with a young pitcher going also, but one that has plenty of upside and that has pitched some decent games at this level. The O’s are 24-20 at home while the Jays are 18-26 on the road. This sure doesn’t look like a toss-up to me, as the O’s have a significant edge in momentum, starters and current form. Play: Baltimore –1.04 (Risking 2.08 units to win 2).

COLORADO –1½ +1.52 over Atlanta http://www.pinnaclesports.com/?refer=xspwagers
The Rockies have won four in a row and 15 of their last 19 at home. Derek Lowe’s one good pitch, the sinker, isn’t sinking these days but he is. Lowe has been brutally roughed up with a 0-4 record to go along with an 8.61 ERA over his last five starts. Meanwhile Ubaldo Jiminez has perhaps the most misleading record in the league. Jiminez is 6-8 but has a 3.68 ERA and that’s pretty impressive when you consider where he pitches. This guy is wickedly good and he can almost always be counted on to pitch deep into games. In fact, Jiminez has pitched into the seventh inning in six straight starts and his groundball to fly ball ratio is terrific. When he doesn’t issue walks he’s so tough to beat and he has walked just one batter in two of his last three starts. Jiminez deserves better and with the way the Rocks are playing, combined with his great stuff, it says here he gets that win in impressive fashion. Play: Colorado –1½ +1.52 (Risking 2 units).
