If you like coasters, head to Cedar Point in Sandusky. There are 17 there.

I live much closer to Six Flags near Chicago, but would rather travel the distance to CP. Cleaner, larger, and much more enjoyable.

By staying in their hotel on the grounds, you get to enter the park earlier than the rest and can hit the coasters without the long waits.

One year we stayed in downtown Toledo the night before at a Best Western(?) to get an early start to CP and cut down on the day of travel. There was a blues/ribs fest across the street on the river front. Then we headed to a jazz bar afterwards which was also next to the fest.

One suggestion, hangovers and coasters don't mix.:wierdo:
If you do feel like a sack of worms, hit the Snake River falls ride first, the drop and ensuing soaking will bring you back.

I really think this will be a Future Road Trip !
What time of the Year was the Blues/Rib Fest ?? and do you remember what the name of the Jazz bar is ?

This sounds like a Great trip...

Kings Island is on I-71 a little north on Cincinnati. Cedar Point in on Lake Erie mid-way between Toledo and Cleveland. It would be about a 3 hour drive between the two.

The Toledo Rib event is the weekend of July 31, I believe. The Jazz club is called Murphy's, right next to the downtown park where the Rib thing happens. Also, the Mud Hens are in town starting August 1 if you have never been to their park; it is worth the trip. The Crown Plaza just got renovated last year if you are looking for a good hotel, or try the Park Inn.

Hell, I should work for the chamber of commerce.

Been to all at Cedar point and Kings Island, both are fantastic if you like roller coasters. Could easily be done in a week

Thanks for updating as I really couldn't remember the name of the hotel/jazz club names as it was a few years ago. I do remember they had just renovated the hotel and it was a nice stay and the two spots were right across the street from the hotel.

CP is also located on a small pennisula like stretch on Lake Erie. It's like an island to itself with a beachfront on the property.

Highly recommend this trip.

Smoke on the Water - Ribs for Red Cross

July 31st thru August 2nd, 2009The downtown riverfront location is the perfect venue to sample mouth watering BBQ ribs from local and national vendors, while enjoying the music from live bands. Come enjoy the weekend with friends at Smoke on the Water and help support the American Red Cross, too

Did a little research on this event. It's now a sponsored event where when we were there it was free. There's a $3 admittance fee for adults and with limited access. They shut the gates when the max attendance is hit.
Sounds like basically the same venue, but more controlled now and tied in with the Crown Plaza.
