Early College Football Betting

Bettors are starting to take some notice of the upcoming NCAA football season, with betting action picking up in the future book for the college kids.

There are no surprises at the top of the food chain heading into the 2009 season, with the Gators, Trojans, Sooners and Longhorns firmly entrenched as the favorites to win BCS National Championship

At online sportsbook SPORTSBETTING.com, the current odds on the top four are:
Texas - 7 - 1
USC - 5 - 1
Oklahoma - 5 - 1
Florida - 2 - 1

Talking to the SPORTSBETTING.com sportsbook crew, they’re starting to see money flow in on the college football future odds, with things picking up the first week of July.

Who’s betting college football this early and who are they betting on? Good question.

The sports bettors who are stepping up to the virtual window at this point are those who think they see some value on a team and are trying to grab decent odds while the team is “under-valued”.

Money is showing up on the group slotted in behind the big favorite, Florida, as the Trojans, Sooners and Texans have all received attention from bettors the last week or so.

“We’re not seeing any action on the Florida Gators, which isn’t surprising. Guys who are betting college future odds in July aren’t looking to get money down on the big favorite, but rather looking for some value and buying a team that might offer a bit of value.” stated Mike, one of the managers at SPORTSBETTING.com.

Sooner money, Trojan money, some Longhorn money and even Ohio State action (the Buckeyes are currently at 8-1) has been coming in.

The last time we saw any meaningful college ball, the Florida Gators beat the Oklahoma Sooners 24-14 for the BCS championship, covering as a -4.5-point favorite, with the game staying Under the Total of 70.5.

Looking at 2009, if the Gators can get past the Charleston Southern Buccaneers and the Troy Trojans early in their schedule they should be okay for another run at the Championship…just kidding. The Gators will face a moderately tough schedule, simply because they play in the best conference in the country.

But the Gators have paid off nicely for bettors when facing their division. In their last 20 divisional games, they are 14-6 ATS (16-4 straight up) and are currently on a 7-0 run ATS.

Despite losing the likes of WR Percy Harvin to the NFL, they are still the big favorites for good reason…because they are stacked again this year.

Maybe the BCS defeat at the hands of the Gators will act as motivation for the Sooners, but this team has some questions around it about winning big games. Can they get it done this year?

They’ll have Heisman Trophy winning QB Sam Bradford back, which will help in the quest to do what they couldn’t last year—the Sooners are listed at +500 to win the BCS title.

As always, the Red River Shootout will likely determine the fates of both the Sooners and the Longhorns.

USC gets their big challenge early, with a trip to Ohio State on Sept. 12th. If they book a victory in this one, they very well should run the table putting them into the BCA Title game. A loss in Columbus and bye bye BCS Championship (most likely anyway), as it’s tough to see a one-loss USC team getting the invite.

Things are heating up as we start the march to the kick-off of the college football betting season.

Have a great weekend.
