HOME TEAM IN CAPS
All games are listed pitchers unless stated otherwise.
L.A. ANGELS –1.06 over NY Yankees
Collectively, the Angels batters have a terrific history against Andy Pettitte while the Yanks batters have a lousy history against Jered Weaver. For instance, Chone Figgins is hitting .375 against Pettitte in 14 career AB’s, Guerrero is hitting .400 in 20 AB’s, Matthews Jr. is hitting .375 in 24 AB’s, Eric Aybar is hitting.400 in 10 AB’s and Mike Napoli is hitting .714 with five hits in 7 AB’s. Those are some serious stats and by contrast, the Yanks are collectively hitting .244 against Weaver. It’s also worth noting that Weaver is 5-0 with a 1.57 ERA in seven outings against AL clubs at home this year. The Angels are one of the best teams in the business, bar none and they played to a jacked up and packed house last night and responded with a big 10-run outburst. They’ve owned the Yankees at home over the years winning 15 of its last 20 contests vs them and they look very good today too. Play: L.A. Angels –1.06 (Risking 2.12 units to win 2). <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Florida +1.10 over ARIZONA
Jon Garland has thrown 50 innings at Chase Field this season and it hasn’t been pretty. He’s allowed 69 hits, eight of those bombs, he’s walked 22 while striking out 16, he has a BAA of .335 and his ERA is 7.15 after allowing 44 runs in those 50 innings. Garland has pitched well in some favorable pitcher’s parks on the road but at home, where hittable pitchers get hammered, Garland has been brutally awful. This guy puts the ball in play and this park has proven over the years that it’ll rip apart pitchers of that nature. Furthermore, the D-Backs have never seen Sean West and they’re 8-16 this season against southpaws. Any take-back against Garland at Chase Field is worthy of a wager and this one is no exception. Play: Florida +1.10 (Risking 2 units).

TEXAS/Seattle over 8 –1.10
Players from both teams have seen the opposing pitcher so many times over the years that there is a serious history between the two. Neither pitcher has had success against the batters they’ll see here, as Kevin Millwood has faced these Mariner batters 299 times and has allowed 99 hits for a BAA of .328. Jarod Washburn’s numbers against the Rangers isn’t much better and it’s worth noting that Michael Young has faced Washburn 60 times and has 20 hits against him. Collectively, the Rangers are hitting a solid .291 against Washburn and although these two pitchers are considered reliable for their respective teams, this is a very beatable total based on the history between the combatants. Play: Seattle/Texas over 8 (Risking 2.2 units to win 2).

Atlanta +1.07 over COLORADO
Jason Marquis is very warm right now but a close look reveals a guy that is living a rather charmed life. Marquis is coming off consecutive shutouts over Washington and the Dodgers in which he went a combined 17 innings over those two starts. The Rocks have won six of his last eight starts, he has the most wins in the NL with 11, he’s pitching for one of the hottest teams in the league, yet the oddmakers made him a very small –1.15 favorite. Marquis has seen a lot of weak teams this season, as he’s pitched against San Diego, Pittsburgh, Washington, San Fran twice, Houston twice, Arizona and against the Cubbies at Wrigley. One can’t deny his good numbers but damn, this guy is so hittable, he doesn’t strike out many and he’s not even close to being an 11-win pitcher at the break. What I do know is that Jair Jurrjens has wicked stuff and the Braves have a great chance to beat Marquis here. The line says so. Play: Atlanta +1.07 (Risking 2 units).

Kansas City +1.66 over BOSTON (1st 5 innings)
Gil Meche has the ability to be a very good pitcher and is capable of throwing a gem at any time. He’s been rock solid on the road this year with a BAA of .244, a 3-3 record and a 2.75 ERA. However, this is more about taking back a big price against John Smoltz. Smoltz is 42-years old and is about 10 steps behind everyone. He’s pitched just 15 lousy innings this season and has allowed 20 hits and 11 earned runs for a BAA of .313 and an ERA of 6.60. In his only start at Fenway, the A’s smacked him around and knocked him out after he allowed 10 hits and five runs in six frames. So yeah, the Red Sox can win this game and they cam win big. However, Smoltz is neither sharp enough nor good enough to be this high a price and with that in mind, the play is the Royals in five. Play: Kansas City +1.66 in the first five innings (Risking 2 units).
