ST. LOUIS -- Freddy Sanchez will have company in St. Louis this week after all. Pirates starter Zach Duke, 26, has been named a National League All-Star, replacing Giants starter Matt Cain, who was struck near his right elbow by a line drive on Saturday and won't be able to play.

This marks Duke's first All-Star invitation and it comes in the midst of a breakout season for the lefty. Though he has an 8-8 record, his 3.29 ERA ranks 15th in the NL and his 126 innings pitched are bettered by only All-Stars Tim Lincecum and Dan Haren.
After going 8-12 with a 5.08 in his last two seasons combined, Duke has pitched at least six innings in all but one of his 18 starts this year and has 13 quality starts. The Pirates' offense has scored just 10 runs in Duke's eight losses this season. Duke's addition to the All-Star team gives the Pirates two representatives for just the third time since 1994. He is also the first Pirates pitcher to be named to the All-Star team since reliever Mike Williams earned back-to-back nods in 2002 and 2003.

Duke is a stud. I would take him on my team any day of the week.
