EL CAJON, Calif. — Former top draft pick Matt Bush has pleaded not guilty to drunken driving, resisting arrest and vandalism for an incident last month in which he backed into a parked car in Mission Valley.
A lawyer entered pleas for Bush on Wednesday in a San Diego County courtroom. Lawyer Gregory Daniels said the 23-year-old pitcher, who's had several alcohol-related incidents, is in rehab.
The San Diego Padres drafted Bush with the first pick in 2004 and traded him to Toronto in February, after he allegedly assaulted members of a high school lacrosse team. He's charged with misdemeanour battery in that case.
The Blue Jays released Bush in April for failing to comply with team guidelines.
