I don’t care what anyone else thinks...I like the set-up that awards home field advantage in the World Series to the winning conference in the All-Star game. Is it perfect? Of course not, Bud Selig was involved in the decision, but I have to give Bud a tip of the hat, as it is better than the previous set-up.

I know I’ll be watching tonight, just like I watched the home run contest last night.

Heading in SPORTSBETTING.com had Prince Fielder listed at +375 to win it all. While Albert Pujols and Ryan Howard attracted the most betting attention at most online sportsbooks, it was Fielder who paid off for bettors.

With that out of the way we move on to the big event.

Going into tonight’s game at Busch Stadium, the National League sees itself listed as a +102 underdog while the American League is favored at -112; the Total is set at 9.5.

I’m already in with a play on the National League. Why would I put my money down on a conference that is currently on a 0-11-1 run…because former Cub Mark Grace said they were going to win. That and I do think they’re due. But I’ve been saying they’re due for the last four years, so tread carefully.

Looking at the game, the NL does have the edge in All-Star game wins with 41 and the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />AL has 36 but at the same time, as mentioned the junior circuit has gone 11-0-1 straight up in the last 12 Midsummer Classics, including wins in the last six in a row.

The starters have been named with the San Francisco Giants’ Tim Lincecum taking the mound for the NL and the Toronto Blue Jays’ Roy Halladay doing the same for the AL.

Lincecum’s last 20 starts have yielded his team a record of 13-7 SU.

The Giants’ ace and 2008 NL Cy Young winner’s team is a perfect 3-0 SU the last three times he’s started at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

Halladay’s team is 12-8 SU in his last 20 games but more recently, they have struggled when the Doc gets the start, going 2-6 SU in the last eight—he has gone 13-7 on the Over/Under in that time as well.

It should be noted that Halladay will have significantly more run support tonight.

He hasn’t made an appearance at Busch Stadium yet.

There have been some All-Star game lineup adjustments as a number of players on both the AL and NL squads will be absent.

Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia will be with his wife, who is suffering from complications due to her pregnancy, and he will be replaced by the Tampa Bay Rays’ Carlos Pena.

On the NL side, Giants P Matt Cain is suffering from an elbow injury and will be replaced by the Pittsburgh Pirates lefty Zach Duke and L.A. Dodger closer Jonathan Broxton’s toe is giving him trouble and he will be replaced by his counterpart from the Milwaukee Brewers, Trevor Hoffman.

SPORTSBETTING.com is reporting 63% of all the action coming in on the American League by mid-day.

Enjoy the game.
