Does anyone know any information regarding the legalization of Sports Gambling in Delaware? I know the law passed but wasn't sure of all the details.
Can anyone shed some light?
Also, if any, do you think other states will follow suit. For example, Pennsylvania, since all the casinos have been launched?
Thoughts and info???

Gambling is prevalent everywhere across the United States and the world for that matter whether legal or illegal money changes hands. In addition, with the advent of online sportsbooks, there are so may loopholes you have to go through in the US to even mae a deposit because most credit card companies or banks do not want to associate with gambling transactions. That is integrity-destorying on many levels. I believe this illegal form of gambling, the one that is not regulated like in Vegas, or Oregon, or Montana, and now Delaware, is the kind that destroys the integrity of sports in general.

Therefore, why not make it legal across the country and use that revenue to improve each state's educational insitituations, provide tax breaks, etc. rather than to continue to let it be a racket.

One final note, it baffles me as to why there is no Sportsbetting in Atlantic City. But, I don't think the answer to any of these questions is "if" it will happen, I think it is a matter of "when" we will see changes take place.

As a Delawarean myself hopefully I can shed some light on it for you. The legislation to allow a sports lottery was passed in May. There had been a lot of questioning though about whether only parlays would be allowed or if single game betting could take place as well. On July 15th, Delaware Park (one of Delaware's three "Racinos") released a statement saying that they plan on having single game betting available by the start of football season.

On July 24th the NFL,MLB,NHL,NBA and NCAA filed a joint lawsuit against Delaware Governor Jack Markell to appeal this legislation. The State of Delaware expects to win this case, as it won a very similar case in the 1970s.

Squeeze: No, other states like PA can't follow suit. There was anti-sports betting legislation passed in the early 1990s (that year could be wrong), but Delaware and three other states already had sports betting in place so they were grandfathered in. Only these 4 states can ever allow sports betting.
