Watching that PERFECTO was one of the highlights of my handicapping...or just "sports watching"....career.

I'm watching the game right now for the third time.
It's 4 am.
The announcers (Hawk Harrelson and Steve Stone) have been counting down the outs since the fourth inning .

Thursday's Perfect Game was only the 18th in the history of MLB.
And there have been almost One Half a Million chances at this feat.

And it couldn't have happened to a better person.

Mark lives down the road from me....he and his wife shop at one of the grocery stores I go to.

When he was on the cover of The Wheaties box after the 2005 World Series....he was shopping at the Dominicks grocery store down the street....and after he was told the Wheaties boxes with his picture on it were in stock... he asked for a chair and sat in the cereal aisle for 4 hours signing boxes (for KIDS ONLY).

Cool guy.
Down to earth....

and.....
the most UNDERRATED pitcher in the game.
You guys know I've been saying this for three years
He is working on his 8th straight year of 200 innings pitched+ at least 15 wins.

Mark works quicker than anyone I've ever seen...faster than Maddux and faster than Bob Gibson

Do yourself a favor and watch the last 2 or 3 innings of this game.

He never stopped to reflect.
Quick.

I don't know why more pitchers don't approach the game in the same manner.
He told his first time catcher..."Just put down a finger...I'll throw your pitch...then get the ball back to me real quick".

He didn't shake catcher Ramon Castro off one time.

Two more great stories about this game....

AJ Piersinski...his regular catcher...was told the night before that he would not be catching Buehrle for this Thursday afternoon game.
So AJ went up to Buerl's and gave him shit.....messin with him.....he told Buehrle that he had a new "personnal catcher"... and he said if you don't throw a no-hitter....I'll be back behind the plate next start.
Buehrle's reply ?

"Better yet...I'll toss you a Perfecto".

Story #2....
As you know, most of the time in MLB...when there is a no-hitter in progress...the proper protocal is to NOT MENTION IT within hearing distance of the guy who is throwing the no-hitter.

Some people say it's a jinx, or whatever...

Well, I know a guy that works in the runway between the dugout and the clubhouse.
He said in the 7th inning , to break the ice....Buehrle himself declared " hey m-f-ers...wake up...I'm throwing a perfect game !!!".
All the way up to the bottom of the ninth, Buehrle was very vocal....jokingly telling his teamates "You better not fuck up my Perfect Game or I'll have to kick your ass" type of things.

Hahahaha
Good stuff.

In the interview after the game....a reporter asked him what he was thinking late in the game.....Buehrle said "Hey...if it happens , it happens.
If it don't , it don't....whatever".

That's probably the key.
You just can't give a fuck what happens.

Congratulations Mark Buehrle.
...and Dewayne Wise who saved the Perfecto in the 9th with a spectacular catch.

It was a great day.
