Albert Pujols is getting the day off Thursday against the Nationals.
The Cardinals have lost three straight, so the decision is a bit strange. Mark DeRosa will fill in at first base and bat third. Manager Tony La Russa clearly isn't taking this make-up game with the Nationals too seriously.

Manny was supposed to get the night off for the Dodgers as well last night and came in to pinch-hit in the sixth and the result, well we know the end result.

With or without Pujols the Cards should be a -170 road fav. against the Nats, especially with Wainwright pitching. Balester making his first appearance of the year for Washington, going 3-7 with a 5.51 era in '08. I'm thinking this game comes down to St. Louis's ability to get to Balester early, as well as their motivation to play this make-up game against the worst team in the league. After losing three straight, they should come ready to play tonight before heading to Philly.
