Not a huge player, probably put in $500 to a grand.

Which site is the best and what should I know before joining? Thanks.

if you plan on being a regular player I suggest you to sign up to a poker site through a poker affiliate who offers rakeback...

rakeback gets you back a percentage of what you pay in rake to the poker room, these "refunds" are made weekly or even monthly

unfortunately pokerstars does not offer any rakeback under any circumstances, neither does doyles room anymore....

i suggest you to try fulltiltpoker, absolutepoker or ultimate bet, those have the biggest traffic, and offer bigger tournaments.

for poker affiliates who can get you rakeback i suggest you to try pocketfives.com, pokersource.com, thisisthenuts.com or rakebreak.com... that way you will be setup for rakeback and you can play on monthly freerolls or compete in rakeraces.

ultimately, you should try most of the poker rooms, only then you will decide which one suits for your preferences... everyone has preferences of their own and it depends on which games and limits you prefer to play

All the sites have a mirror site...the same name but .net instead of .com usually. You can go there play for free and try out the software as well as see if its just a passing fad for you or if u really want to play for real money.
My own estimation is that 96%+ of people who play for real money lose that money....If you just want to play for fun its better to do it for free....

Thanks for the responses guys. ProPokerPlayer, I've played with fake money for a few years but it's hard to take it seriously and play as I would sitting down at a table when I know it's just monopoly money. Losing the bankroll, while annoying, certainly wouldn't kill me.

What is the deal with cashouts from those big ones like fulltilt, etc.?

cks take a couple of weeks... Sorry about assuming u hadnt played yet, was kinda dumb.. Absolute and UB both are the same place and if ur into cash games they have a BB jackpot that avgs a few hundred grand all the time. Lots of people there chasing that...as well as weak draws....lol I get checks from them or have gotten i should say in about 15 days....
