Alright....So I have been betting on sports for a few years now recreationally. Mostly I bet NFL, NBA, occasional MLB. I seem to always finish about even or a little down at the end of every season. I need to get a better method down for making my picks. When I do my "research" I tend to just look at streaks, points allowed/scored every game etc. What should I start looking at more closely? When you guys sit down to handicap a game, where do you start? Are there any sites that have good stat breakdowns? ANy advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

First of all there are many methods to handicapping. There are methods such as fundamental, situational, trends and angles, streaks, etc. Using statistics is very important but games are not determined by statistics but play on the field. You need to see as many games as you can and carefully watch players for future match-ups against other players (fundamental handicapping). Situational handicapping might include huge home field advantage or revenge games. Trends and angles give you how one team has done against another team. For statistics, here are a couple of sights that provide a great deal of information that might assist you. Best of luck.

Thanks a lot, I just got a book today by Dan Gordon on handicapping, it's been really helpful so far. I think I am going to try and create my own rankings, then go through each week making my own spreads before looking at the books. I never did this in the past, I just checked out the trends and stats morw than anythign else.
