They are talking during the ESPN game tonight, that MLB is considering lifting the ban on Charlie Hustle.....

However, due to the length of time that has passed, the decision would rest with the living hall of famers.......

simple question, do u think he deserves to be in the HOF?

there is no doubt in my mind that he does...

what do u think?

thats kinda how i feel Rupert...guys break rules all the time, it doesnt make it right......

but had he bet AGAINST the Reds, i might think differently, thinking that he "threw" games....but there has never been ANY PROOF at all that he bet against his team.....

basicallly he was betting on his guys and his abilities as a manager...it wasnt right, but i dont think its any worse that steroirds, performance enhancers, being caught with tar on your bat, using vaseline on the baseball, spitting on it, having sandpaper on your cap, etc...

It's the Hall that loses prestige by not including the all time hit leader..

He is a Hall of Famer. He was one of the best players ever.
Wish we could have known what he was betting and faded him.

No. Not today. Not tomorrow. Not in 100 years.

In every clubhouse in the Major Leagues is the poster that spells out the penalities for betting on baseball.

Pete Rose walked past those posters for years.

And once caught, he lied ("I never bet on baseball"). Then he lied some more ("I never bet against the Reds"). And then he lied some more.

He accepted a life time ban. If you're banned from baseball, you're not eligible for the HOF. That's rule 3E. http://web.baseballhalloffame.org/hofers/rules.jsp

Is there something about LIFETIME BAN that you folks don't understand?

Now, let's move to rule 5.
Voting: Voting shall be based upon the player's record, playing ability,
integrity, sportsmanship, character, and contributions to the team(s) on which the player played. Betting on baseball and lying about for the next 20 years would pretty much eliminate Pete from having any integrity or character.

No. Not today. Not tomorrow. Not in 100 years.

Betting on baseball, or any sport for that matter, strikes at the very heart of the integrity of the game. If you don't care that Pete bet on baseball, you should...

Did you also not care that NBA ref Tim Donaghy bet on games?

Sorry, NO

And let's Not try to Compare Tim Donaghy to Pete Rose, because That would be a Joke !

Pete Rose was my absolute most favorite ballplayer as a youngster who played youth baseball from 1968-1978.

I wore 14 every year as soon as I was allowed to select my number.

When he gambled on MLB while a manager, he tampered with the very fabric of The Great Game.*
And therefore, he should never be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

I'd love to believe that he only bet on the Reds. But most all evidence over past 20+ years suggests Charlie Hustle is - quite sadly - a pathological liar on at least this topic.

No question about it, YES. His induction would be based on his accomplishments as a player, and few if any played harder or better represented the game as a PLAYER than Charlie Hustle.

The Hall of Fame is a beauty pageant and has been for many years. Phil Rizzuto is in the Hall of Fame for god's sake! Look at his stats and tell me there is anything legit about the hall.
