I'm a Colorado Rockies fan and I tend to avoid betting on their games. The Double Jeopardy of betting them to win is just too much to handle if they lose. Betting against them is kind of a hedge, but I dont have a sense of satisfaction betting this way.

All that is understandable, but now I'm starting to struggle to bet for certain teams. The number of teams I feel confortable to bet has evolved to the SF Giants, Atlanta, Florida, Cubs since they are all fighting for this Wild Card spot.

Today SF looks like a decent bet, but I just can't cheer for them.

I'm sure most RXers are solely focused on the money but I think some of you might have this dilema. I'd love to hear your thoughts :think2:

Cubs fan and I HATE betting against them. I hate betting for them too, but if I feel I can make some money, I'll do it. I live in Nebraska so I almost never, ever bet for or against the Huskers in College football, I'm already too emotionally invested. Baseball is a long season so if the Cubs are in a spot where they might lose, I would consider the wager and have bet against them this year. It is a crappy situation though.

I have a real hard time pulling for a team I can't stand, even if there is a wager involved whereby I may profit.:toast:

I never bet against my teams (Pats, C's, BoSox). If there is a spot I just know they wont win or cover just from observing, I will just pass. Last year when the Patriots played at home against the Steelers, I just knew it was an awful spot and Cassel hadnt played a D like the Steelers, yet they were favored. I couldn't bring myself to root against the Pats, so I just passed on it.

However, if I feel confident in a situation I love betting on the teams I root for.. you just need to be careful not to get sucked into always betting on them, especially if you are from a city like Boston, NY, LA, Philly, etc where the teams have been more successful than not

I think no matter how big a fan you are, it is much easier when your team is awful and has no shot to win. When the Celtics were tanking games a few years ago at the end of the season I would have no trouble betting against them.. now I wouldnt even think about it

when you say bad..do you mean farm league team? because that's practically what we are.

yeah I guess it isnt as hard to bet against "your team" when they stink.

Overall, if you can put your emotions behind, I think betting for/against the team you follow closely and call your own, could be the most profitable

It's not that hard for me to be for/against the Rangers. Then again...I'm so conditioned to them crapping their pants when there's a glimmer of hope that I'm not phased by anything they do. I look at it like it's a team that I know more about and watch more of their games than any other. I also don't mind playing for/against the Cowboys or Mavericks.

In college football I very rarely will bet on Texas Tech. I'll place small bets on some of their non-conference games if I'm not worried about the win and only looking at "can they cover 31 vs Rice or not." In the Big 12, I'll only bet them if they are an underdog. This past year, that equaled a bet on them @ KU and vs Texas (both on the ML when Tech was a 1 to 3 pt dog) as well as a spread bet on OU when they beat the crap out of Tech in late November. I won't play them as a favorite because I hate the thought of having them win a conference game by 4 when the spread was 7 and now I'm bummed they didn't cover.
