Don't ever lose your key's to a LEXUS...big hassle

Had my keys stolen from me on Sunday night(Lexus RX300) ...its the only key I have that has the security chip inside the remote. I called Lexus Monday morning and they said that they would have to install a new ECM. They do this for free once for the lifetime of the car ($2,000 anytime after that). New keys will cost me $500.00 out of my pocket....For labor and new keys. Its gonna take 3 days.

When it rains it pours....what a terrible year it has been since Hurricane Ike

Have you tried contacting an independent locksmith? A lot of the locksmiths have gone high tech and have the ability to reprogram chipped keys for any type of car. You would be surprised to see the type of equipment that they have tucked away in their cargo vans. Just a thought, I never believe anything that a car dealership has to tell me. Having to replace a ECM in order to replace a key seems sketchy.

that does sound sketchy.

and as mentioned alot of lock smith places are very high tech, but some also are not, you just have to search for the good ones.

you could also go to ask dot com and ask the question and get an automotive pro to answer the question for like 10 bucks.

Good luck getting the replacement key maxdemo! Sorry to hear it's costing you 500... Chips on car keys....Freaky to think some day a One World Government will be able to know where you are at all times, allow you to buy food or not, decide whether you can drive your car or not.

VWgolf.... maybe you should plan ahead, and just get a spare now, no? How expensive is a new key for your car? ah! Nevermind. Just realized your current key would no longer work.

too funny...at least i'm not from the ghetto...:toast:

Had to take the bus to work...what a rip off. The fare was $1.25 x2 (2 transfers)....$2.50. The first bus tells me I have to have exact change. I have 2 $1.00 bills and lose 0.75. The bus ride took 45 min. I could save alot of $$ taking the bus to work...

Car is still in the shop...hope to get it today!~~~!
