RICHMOND, VA - AUGUST 27: Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick (L) arrives at federal court August 27, 2007 in Richmond, Virginia. The football star was expected to plead guilty to a federal dogfighting conspiracy charge. The NFL has suspended Vick indefinitely. (Photo by Win McNamee/Getty Images)

So far, 27 of 32 NFL teams have said “no” to Michael Vick, according to a story on usatoday.com.
"Teams that have not made public comments about Vick: Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans, San Diego Chargers."
Most team statements are more of the "not at this time" nature rather than an emphatic "hell no." But it suggests the market for Vick's services is thinner than first thought.

Most fans assumed that one or two teams would brave the marketing fallout from taking on the most notorious man in sports.

While Vick has paid his debt to society, most teams seem uncomfortable with the potential risk he brings to their advertising stream. There may be concern with the potential for repeated infractions that could delay full reinstatement.

Wait-and-see is the prevailing attitude.

Of the five teams mentioned in the USA Today article, only Green Bay, San Diego, and maybe Arizona are set at quarterback. Matt Schaub and Jake Delhomme should be looking over their shoulder whether Vick is in play or not.

Vick has a fan following that is larger than many think, I suspect. He also has a vocal set of anti-Vickophiles who clamor for a lifetime ban.

Sorry to disappoint you. In our legal system, one man—Commissioner Roger Goodell—may not ban a person from 32 separate business enterprises.

That has to be separate business decisions by 32 individual teams working independently.

However this story ends, it's unfolding the way it should.

Meanwhile, Tony Dungy says that Michael Vick has turned over a new leaf.

This story also appears on redskinshogheaven.com.

<!-- end floating resource box --> Bob McNair is the latest NFL owner to say he is not interested in signing quarterback Michael Vick.
McNair said in the offseason and reiterated after practice today that the Texans aren't a candidate to sign Vick.
"No, we don't have any interest in him," McNair said. "We're very happy with the quarterbacks we have."
Matt Schaub is firmly entrenched as the starter. The coaches believe if he stays healthy he's got a chance to become an elite player at his position. They like Dan Orlovsky as the backup. They're paying him an average of $3 million a year after signing him as an unrestricted free agent. They're excited about Rex Grossman, who signed a one-year deal for the $620,000 mimimum, as their third quarterback.
"We like our team chemistry, too," McNair said. "We don't see any reason to make any changes."

No team wants the baggage nor the distractions.
I can't blame them.

Let him be the face of the UFL.

As time passes one of the teams will put their pride aside and do the right thing by signing him & instantly improving their team regardless of where or how often he plays......

Explain yourself here. Why is it the right thing? Guy was a bad qb passing-wise, and ran out of passing situations. No one is stopping him from getting a job. It won't be a NFL job, but he has only himself to blame.

The UFL offered him a $1.5 million contract. It's probably looking pretty good to him right about now.

I don't believe all that teams are saying.

The correct statement should be "AT THIS TIME" we don't want him.

Let a starter or backup go down in training camp or exhibition season...the tune will change.

i wish the panthers would sign him, they need more play makers. what he did was wrong, but i put leonard little and stallworth above what he did, and they are or will be back in the league

Patriots. Can you imagine trying to guard Moss and Vick with Brady throwing?

If Michael vick was a QB like Brady, Manning, there would be plenty of teams that would be willing to put up with the so called " baggage " that comes with him. However let's face the fact that I doubt that Michael Vick will ever be a great QB either now or if this incident didn't happen. He was a highlight film but not an upper echelon QB ! JMHO I think that defenses already had begun to figure him out and He was heading downward anyway. After an All Pro first season, his passing rating and TD production started to decline. His last 3 years QB ratings were 78.1, 73.1 and 75.7. Why would anyone really want him now for perhaps 1/2 a season and all the baggage. I sure wouldn't be interested.

The updated Anti-Vick List

Posted by Mike Florio on July 28, 2009 9:25 PM ET

Here's the semi-official PFT list of teams who have stated unequivocally that they have no interest in Falcons quarterback Mike Vick. Please let us know if/when more teams make their positions known.

Atlanta Falcons. (We know it kind of goes without saying.)

Tampa Bay Buccaneers. (The Bucs have been silent since Vick was reinstated; they previously have said they aren't interested.)

Detroit Lions. (Pre-reinstatement.)

New York Jets. (Pre-reinstatement and last week.)

New York Giants. (Recently.)

San Francisco 49ers. (Pre-reinstatement and post-reinstatement.)

St. Louis Rams. (Pre-reinstatement, and possibly post-reinstatement.)

Dallas Cowboys. (Pre-reinstatement and recently.)

Washington Redskins. (Pre-reinstatement and recently.)

Houston Texans. (Pre-reinstatement.)

Indianapolis Colts. (Pre-reinstatement.)

Seattle Seahawks. (Pre-reinstatement.)

Buffalo Bills. (Post-reinstatement.)

Cincinnati Bengals. (Post-reinstatement.)

Miami Dolphins. (Post-reinstatement.)

Kansas City Chiefs. (Pre-reinstatement and post-reinstatement.)

Philadelphia Eagles. (Post-reinstatement.)

Jacksonville Jaguars. (Post-reinstatement.)

Minnesota Vikings. (Post-reinstatement.)

Chicago Bears. (Post-reinstatement.)

Tennessee Titans. (Post-reinstatement.)

Oakland Raiders. (Post-reinstatement.)

New England Patriots. (Post-reinstatement.)

Cleveland Browns. (Post-reinstatement.)

He just needs to get himself back into legit playing shape and at some point a team this season will sign him.

And most likely it will be as a 3rd QB/Scatback ala Randle-El

Just Suppose TJ Goes Down

What would Childbirth do? Panic of course is the logical answer. Do I want him? NO. All the negs. said here are true and then some. But would the Vikes needing public support for a new stadium pass on him? I'm not sure. The Coach needs to save his job, Ol Itzy needs a park, and after 4 SB losses, not too sure Vike fans wouldn't accept him. IF they thought he could get them to the promised land. Quandry!

And how much is it worth to pay to a guy who might be on the field for two or three plays a game? The league minimum?

Vick wasn't a good quarterback BEFORE he got sent away. He was flashy and could turn out a play every so often that would make the hightlight clips, but his presence wasn't going to improve any teams even then.

Teams already know signing him would be a PR nightmare, and his skills are questionable. The UFL is probably just what Vick needs, if there's any chance to show he's changed his ways and that he can be a solid quarterback.
