Three more NFL teams sign lottery deals

Casino Journal
August 5, 2009

Three more National Football League teams will be lending their brands to lottery games, bringing to 10 the number of teams to date whose logos will appear on instant tickets.

The New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans all signed partnership agreements recently with state lotteries. The Connecticut Lottery will have the Giants’ logo to promote a new $5 scratch-off game scheduled for launch later this month. The game is expected to add $1 million in additional revenue to Connecticut’s General Fund.

“Brand recognition for the Giants is tremendous, and we expect the game to be a sell-out success,” said Anne M. Noble, chief executive of the Connecticut Lottery.

The Tennessee Lottery has partnered with the Tennessee Titans on a scratch-off game set for launch at retailers throughout the state beginning September 1.

“What a great way to tie together the excitement surrounding the beginning of football season and the school year,” said Tennessee Lottery CEO Rebecca Hargrove.

The Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Lottery Commission are partnering on a $5 instant game. Tickets will be available for purchase statewide beginning August 17.

“Even those who don’t hit the jackpot on their ticket will be able to mail it in for a chance to win gift certificates, signed jerseys, pairs of season tickets and other ‘experiential prizes,’” said commission Deputy Executive Director Gary Grief.

The Texas Lottery has devised a similar game, but with fewer tickets, for the state’s other NFL team, the Houston Texans.

The Green Bay Packers were expected to become the next team to announce a deal, confirming a partnership with the Wisconsin Lottery this week.

“What a great way to tie together the excitement surrounding the beginning of football season and the school year,” said Tennessee Lottery CEO Rebecca Hargrove.

Really!?

In a statement the leagues' lawyer, Kenneth Nachbar, said: "We continue to oppose more legalized gambling on our games and we are evaluating our options." :):)(This quote is in regards to the NFL attempting to legally block the state of Delaware from offering sportsbetting).

So it's Ok to promote mindless lottery tickets for the ignorant masses but sportsbetting is something we must not allow at any cost, even to the point were going to tie up the court system with legal action!!

These leagues have no credibility at all. Gambling is gambling period, whether it's single games, parlays, teasers or scratch-off tickets its the same thing. Why are they endorsing lottery tickets but opposing sportbooks that offer direct betting?

Because their criminals. Illegal betting is worth $100 billion a year and is not regulated by anyone. The Feds and illegal crime syndicates have worked together on everything from drug running, porn industry, prostitution not to mention assasination of elected officials (see Kennedy). Of course they control illegal betting and these "outlaw" agencies and their corporate cut-outs are making billions from it. None of that money goes to our treasury, its stays in the hands of corrupt agencies and private individuals. Their racket has been hugely profitable for years and they have no intention of letting it fall into the public trust.

This is absurd, we have lotteries in every state and casinos are almost in every state, yet sportsbetting is a threat to the integrity of the games.

What a load of bull! With all these illegal bookies in America, some of whom are operating 50 years or more, how come the feds don't shut them down? With the technology at their disposal today they could identify anyone, anywhere in the country whose involved in this activity and shut them down within 24 hours. I guess their not that motivated since they would stand to lose untold billions.

Yeah regulation would mean the money would go into federal and state coffers but their not to confident they could control or get at that money. At least not yet! when they do figure out how to control or at least have sufficient access to it, walla! we may suddenly see them change their tune. Remember the numbers racket (now known as the lottery) was illegal for decades until they figured out how to control the purse. Then suddenly; "well whats the harm in a little game of chance, right"?

Their hypocrites and so transperant to boot its all just laughable.
