First of all, this story is true. It happened during the 1991 NFL season. 8 Baccarat dealers from the Hilton, all female, decided they would invest $80, 10 bucks apiece, and bet it all on one NFL game in week 1. If they won, they would invest it all on a single game in week 2. If they won, etc. etc. etc until they lost or won it all by the 17th week.
Well they won their 1st bet....and 2nd...and 3rd...etc..until, when they hit their 7th winner, all the press in Vegas started hearing about it and started following these "handicapper" dealers. They were the talk around all the sportsbooks in town. But they kept on winning. After their 10th win in a row, they had amassed almost $106,000.
Naturally, it was going to take a lot to get down almost $106,000 down on a single bet, even in the old days of Vegas books. But they struck a deal with Binions, no not the Harrah's type, but the Benny Binion type who wasn't afraid of any kind of action. Binion agreed to book all their bets until they won about $1.4 million or finally lost.
Well, on the 11th week, they decided the Chicago Bears were their pick and finally lost. Boy, imagine having almost $106,000 going on one game and losing! At least those were the days that you could get that kind of money down.....and having the BALLS to do it! Sure, they could have quit and taken a profit of around $13,250 a piece for their $10 investment, but they could have cashed out for less money in the 7th week on.
Got to hand it to those ladies, they had the gumption to stick it out and let the chips fall where they may. In the current issue of Gaming Today, they show you how you can take a $22 investment and even make money if you should lose somewhere down the line. If I have some time later, I'll print out their winning formula. Naturally, you're going to have to pick out a lot of winners. But it sure could be some fun trying it in this coming NFL season.
