Why isn't a bigger deal being made about Ortiz?

I am not talking about the use of steroids. I am talking about his comment which stated something like "any player caught using steroids should be banned from the game." I am not trying to start a steroids war here. Just curious why this comment isn't being shoved down his throat and ours.

Thats a good question. I can only reason that so many other MLB players have made contradicting statements over the years that everyone is just used to it now.

Couple of reasons imo:

First, this doesn't come as a suprise anymore and I think with Manny going doing, it was like the other shoe falling.

Second, I think people are just tired of the whole thing. I agree with what you are saying, but I am not suprised.

Personally, I think players should have been able to inject in the on-deck circle.

Well who would make the big deal? ESPN

Ortiz is on the Red Sox, so ESPN wont do that.

Because if you follow baseball everyone knew that Big Papi was a user. Just look at the homerun numbers.

6 years with the Twins: 58 Homeruns
6 years with the Sox: 231 Homeruns

Go ahead and pule on.

He wasn't alone in doing steroids.

He was pretty much the only one stupid enough to open his big mouth and come out publicly.

ESPN is more in the tank for the Red Sox than their own network NESN is. Watching that game Sunday night was torture. You try to keep the volume on for a few minutes but the Red Sox ballwashing just drives you to the mute button. Miller is just a shamless Red Sox groupie and the crww on BBTN don't make much of an effort to hide their loyalties.

Barman and krk are correct. also as long as the boston ballsucker pete gammons himself is on the payroll at espn all negative news regarding the sox will be deflected

Yeah the comment is what I am confused about. ESPN isn't the only one who can make a big deal about that comment. Any reporter could ask about the comment. I am not a big Bill Simmons fan, but great article by him about Ortiz and the steroid era.

I think also people feel that when he made the comment he was inferring from that point forward, a sort of "okay we as MLB have been fucking up until now, but from here on out, now that we have testing, if anyone is caught they have no one to blame but themselves." I'm pretty sure he was asked what should happen to players who test positive (as in, the present).

Also remember we have no idea if ortiz took steroids, coulda been one of many other things.

And don't take me for a Sox fan here, bunch of overpaid, cheating, underachievers. All the blind sox fans who jeered Manny for juicing and now that Ortiz is caught it's "well everyone was doing it" - well that may be true and is a valid argument but don't flip flop just 'cause now its your fuckin guy. Hypocrites.

The only one who's looking better and better in all this is Bonds... Because apparently he was on an even playing field and still outperformed everyone.

i think this has the most to do with it. the reason a-rod got a lot of publicity is because of who he is now. if news about someone actually relevant now got out, like poo-holes, it'd be a different story.

I think because Ortiz has always been great with the media that they prob do take it ez on him. Plus everyone loves him, he always has a smile on his face. And look at his press conference, he didn't read from a piece of paper he was looking right at everyone and he seemed to just speak from the heart.
By the way, it's not like his totals shot through the roof as soon as he hit boston. I would say most hitters would improve some just by going from the twins to bos

Bingo! Nobody believes these guys anymore, they have been caught lying so many times that (in some cases under oath) nobody is shocked when something like this leaks, the story has run its course. Ozzie G was right when he suggested that they just release the damn list and get it over with. The players that are guilty of cheating just need to come clean, if for no other reason than for the sake of the good players in the league that never resorted to sticking a needle in their ass (if there are any left.) They are the ultimate victims here as the whole league is being painted with a broad brush.

Another thing I don't understand is that people keep talking about 'the list' and who's on it, who's not, who leaked the info...when a poster on here (don't remember who it was) posted a list of the 104 which seemed legit to me. It was a while back too.
