Selected notes: Not that you'd ever sit him, but to point out how it's not one bit a scary matchup, Tim Lincecum is 3-0 with a 2.70 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 38 strikeouts in 30 innings in five career games (four starts) against the Dodgers. … In every sense of the word Josh Beckett has been dominant, both lately and in his career against the Tigers. He's 8-2 with a 2.06 ERA and 0.89 WHIP in his past 12 starts, and 2-1 with a 2.61 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in three career starts versus Detroit. Can you say "must-start"? … After a bit of a rocky stretch, Ricky Nolasco has bounced back with four exceptional starts, during which time he's 2-0 with a 1.65 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 30 K's in 27 1/3 innings. He also has a 4.00 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 10 starts at home, far superior to his 5.75/1.34 numbers on the road, so keep him in there. … New Yankee Stadium has actually impacted A.J. Burnett the least of any of the Yankees' top four starters, at least in terms of home/road ERA differential, as he's 4-1 with a 3.30 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in his 11 starts at home, the best ERA of any Yankees pitcher with 50 or more innings. He has six consecutive quality starts at home during which time he hasn't lost, including a seven-inning, two-run, six-hit defeat of these Blue Jays on July 3. No ballpark-factor fears here. … Ubaldo Jimenez is 3-0 with a 3.12 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in his past five starts, and for his career he has an impressive 3.53 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 36 games (35 starts) at Coors Field. This Pirates team ranks among the game's 10 weakest offenses, so consider the right-hander a must-start. … So long as you can live with his meager contributions in the strikeout category, Jon Garland warrants matchups consideration versus the Mets. He has a 3.17 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in his past eight starts, including a complete-game, 5-2 victory at Citi Field on Aug. 2. … If you're looking for a deep sleeper, consider Tommy Hunter, 4-2 with a 2.32 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in his past seven starts. Two of his three best starts (going by game score) during his hot streak came on the road, and Progressive Field in Cleveland does profile as a pitcher-friendly venue. … Vin Mazzaro defeated the Orioles behind 7 1/3 shutout innings of two-hit baseball on June 7, in his second career start, but since then he's 1-8 with a 7.06 ERA in 11 turns. So which Mazzaro seems more likely to toe the hill on Wednesday? That it's a road start against a team with an .816 OPS at home, sixth-best in baseball, has me thinking sit him. … Besides the fact that this is Pedro Martinez's first major league start since Sept. 25, 2008, the guy averaged a measly 5.5 innings per start a year ago and we have no idea how much of his old stuff he still possesses. Ultimately he's a fly-ball pitcher making a road start at Wrigley Field, which isn't a good matchup at all. Take a wait-and-see approach. … Oliver Perez is 0-2 with a 6.61 ERA and 1.71 WHIP in three career starts at Chase Field, and he's 0-2 with a 7.28 ERA and 1.85 WHIP in six road starts this season. That's a terrible mix, and keep in mind that Arizona also has a team OPS 84 points higher in home games than road.
Now batting

Hitters' count
• Nick Swisher, 1B/OF, Yankees: It's a small sample size, sure, but Swisher is 2-for-2 with one double and one walk in his career against Ricky Romero.
• Jeff Francoeur, OF, Mets: He's 5-for-8 (.625 BA) with one double and one home run in his career against Jon Garland, and a .281 hitter with 17 RBIs in 25 games since the All-Star break, including a 2-for-3, one-homer performance against Garland himself on Aug. 2 at Citi Field.
• Orlando Hudson, 2B, Dodgers: So long as he's healthy enough to play, he's one of the few Dodgers who routinely has succeeded versus Tim Lincecum. He's 7-for-15 (.467 BA) with two doubles in his career against the right-hander.
• Adam LaRoche, 1B, Braves: He was 2-for-3 with one double and one home run versus Craig Stammen in their May 21 meeting, and since coming to the Braves, LaRoche has batted .344 with a .905 OPS in nine games.
• Cristian Guzman, SS, Nationals: He's 11-for-29 (.379 BA) with five RBIs in his career against Derek Lowe.
• Nyjer Morgan, OF, Nationals: He's 5-for-9 (.556 BA) with one double in his career versus Lowe, and more importantly, he has successfully stolen a base versus the Lowe-Brian McCann battery in each of their two meetings this season.
• Josh Hamilton, OF, Rangers: Limited sample size, yes, but Hamilton's 4-for-7, two-double, one-triple career performance against Fausto Carmona warrants a bit of attention nonetheless.
• Nelson Cruz, OF, Rangers: There's no guarantee he'll be ready to play Wednesday, and if he doesn't it'd be a shame, as he's 3-for-6 in his career against Carmona, two of those hits home runs.
• Kevin Youkilis, 1B/3B, Red Sox: He's 3-for-5 with two home runs and one walk in his career against Armando Galarraga.
• Hunter Pence, OF, Astros: He has two hits in five at-bats in his career against Ricky Nolasco, and both of them were home runs.
• Justin Morneau, 1B, Twins: He's 8-for-22 (.364 BA) with three doubles and two home runs in his career against Brian Bannister.
• Michael Cuddyer, OF, Twins: He's a lifetime .385 hitter (5-for-13) with one home run and three RBIs versus Bannister.
• Ryan Ludwick, OF, Cardinals: Most any Cardinals hitter makes a great fantasy option facing Homer Bailey -- the team has combined to bat .326 with a 1.092 OPS versus the right-hander -- but Ludwick is the team's biggest standout. He's 3-for-8 with two doubles and one homer against Bailey.
• Jim Thome, DH, White Sox: Thome has one of the most remarkable track records of any hitter against Felix Hernandez; he's 5-for-8 with two doubles, three home runs and three walks in his career versus the right-hander.
Pitchers' count
• Lyle Overbay, 1B, Blue Jays: No way you want him in your lineup; he's 1-for-15 (.067 BA) in his career against A.J. Burnett, including seven strikeouts.
• David Wright, 3B, Mets: Surprisingly, he's hitless in seven career at-bats against Jon Garland. Not that fantasy owners ever want to sit Wright, but Baseball Challenge players might want to take those numbers into account.
• James Loney, 1B, Dodgers: He's 2-for-12 (.167 BA) in his career against Tim Lincecum, with five strikeouts and one extra-base hit (a double).
• Matt Kemp, OF, Dodgers: He's hitless in seven career at-bats versus Lincecum, including four strikeouts.
• Russell Martin, C, Dodgers: Ditto Kemp's numbers, as Martin is also 0-for-7 with four strikeouts in his career against Lincecum.
• Adam Dunn, 1B/OF, Nationals: He has historically had trouble with the sinkerballer Derek Lowe, going 2-for-19 (.105 BA) with five strikeouts and zero extra-base hits in his career against the right-hander.
• Marlon Byrd, OF, Rangers: He's hitless in nine career at-bats against Fausto Carmona, including four strikeouts.
• Hank Blalock, 1B/3B, Rangers: Carmona has also held him hitless in eight career at-bats, including two strikeouts.
• Curtis Granderson, OF, Tigers: One of the Tigers who has struggled most historically against Josh Beckett is Granderson; he's 2-for-11 (.182 BA) with seven strikeouts in his career versus the right-hander.
• Felipe Lopez, 2B, Brewers: He's 4-for-22 (.182 BA) with only one extra-base hit, a double, in his career against Kevin Correia.
• Alfonso Soriano, OF, Cubs: Pedro Martinez has positively owned Soriano in their careers, limiting the slugger to a .163 lifetime batting average (7-for-43), three extra-base hits (all doubles) and striking him out 15 times. Sure, many of those numbers came during their days as Red Sox and Yankees rivals, but Soriano did go 1-for-6 against Martinez as recently as the 2006 season.
• Jason Kubel, OF, Twins: You'd think he matches up nicely in a home game versus a right-hander, but you'd be wrong. Kubel is 3-for-17 (.176 BA) with four strikeouts and zero extra-base hits in his career against Brian Bannister.
• Willy Taveras, OF, Reds: He's 5-for-26 (.192 BA) with only one walk in his career against Chris Carpenter, and as they say, you can't steal first base, meaning Taveras might not even be much of a help in the steals department.
If you're hardcore

• Adam Kennedy, 2B, Athletics: Back when the Athletics faced the struggling Jason Berken in June, Kennedy went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Kennedy is also a .314 hitter with an .845 OPS versus right-handers this year.
• Luis Castillo, 2B, Mets: He's 7-for-16 (.438 BA) in his career against Jon Garland, including one double and one walk.
• Miguel Olivo, C, Royals: He's 4-for-10 (.400 BA) with two doubles, one home run and one walk in his career against Francisco Liriano.
• Andy LaRoche, 3B, Pirates: Very few Pirates have faced Ubaldo Jimenez all that often and even fewer have succeeded against the young right-hander. LaRoche is one of them; he's 4-for-9 in his career against Jimenez.
• Mark Kotsay, OF, White Sox: Might the White Sox consider handing him a spot start? He's 6-for-14 (.429 BA) with three doubles and one walk in his career against Felix Hernandez.
Triage

Injury list: Out
• Jed Lowrie, 3B/SS, Red Sox (wrist, 15-day DL)
• Glen Perkins, SP, Twins (shoulder): With Carl Pavano now in the rotation, the Twins will bump Perkins and send him for an MRI
• Scott Rolen, 3B, Reds (concussion): Will sit out this series in St. Louis and be re-examined in Cincinnati on Thursday
• Carlos Zambrano, SP, Cubs (back, 15-day DL): Jeff Samardzija will take Zambrano's spot in the rotation on Wednesday
Injury list: Day-to-day
• Lance Berkman, 1B, Astros (calf, 15-day DL): Might be activated Tuesday or Wednesday
• Chad Billingsley, SP, Dodgers (hamstring): Will miss his scheduled start Wednesday and might need a DL stint
• Joe Crede, 3B, Twins (shoulder): Hopes to return to the lineup Wednesday after receiving a cortisone shot this past Friday
• Nelson Cruz, OF, Rangers (ankle)
• Chris Dickerson, OF, Reds (shoulder): Was expected to be activated Tuesday
• Mark DeRosa, 2B/3B/OF, Cardinals (back): Available to pinch hit
• Dexter Fowler, OF, Rockies (knee)
• Carlos Gomez, OF, Twins (calf)
• Orlando Hudson, 2B, Dodgers (groin): Was likely to miss Tuesday's game, status for Wednesday unclear
• LaTroy Hawkins, RP, Astros (shingles, 15-day DL): Expected to be activated from the DL on Wednesday, barring any Tuesday setbacks
• Chipper Jones, 3B, Braves (oblique)
• Nate McLouth, OF, Braves (hamstring)
• Aramis Ramirez, 3B, Cubs (shoulder): Might require a cortisone shot that would cost him a few days' action; could require a DL stint
• Aaron Rowand, OF, Giants (hamstring): Available to pinch hit
• Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Rangers (shoulder)
• Nate Schierholtz, OF, Giants (hip, 15-day DL): Expected to be activated Tuesday
Weather concerns

• Four Wednesday games are weatherproof: Mets-Diamondbacks, Padres-Brewers, Royals-Twins and White Sox-Mariners.
• There isn't another game on the schedule that seems in severe danger of a rainout, though many of those East Coast contests face a slim chance of showers. Blue Jays-Yankees faces a 20 percent chance of rain, Athletics-Orioles 30 percent and Tigers-Red Sox 30 percent. Most of the forecasts indicate more of a passing-showers thing than any prolonged downpour, though.
• The Southeast also has some prospects of precipitation, including Nationals-Braves, which faces a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, and Astros-Marlins, which is at 20 percent. Wow, potential sporadic thunderstorms in south Florida in the middle of the summer? Shocking.

Scouting Report:
Blue Jays: On Friday night in Toronto, Romero picked up his second loss in a strong 11-start stretch for the rookie. Against the Orioles, Romero yielded four runs on five hits over six innings, finishing with three strikeouts and two walks. Romero only allowed one hit among the first 16 hitters he faced, but allowed four hits and one costly leadoff walk in a four-run sixth for Baltimore. The defeat snapped a three-game winning streak for the young lefty.Yankees: Burnett will try to one-up his last outing against his former club after handcuffing the Red Sox in a 7 2/3 inning showing on Thursday. Burnett allowed just one hit while walking six, taking a no-decision in the Bombers' 15-inning, 2-0 victory. Burnett is 4-1 with a 3.34 ERA in five starts since the All-Star break and last faced Toronto on July 3 in New York, hurling seven innings of two-run ball in a 4-2 win.

Scouting Report:
Athletics: Mazzaro picked up his first win since June 7 in his last start against the Royals. He'd lost eight consecutive decisions before his breakthrough in Kansas City. He lasted just five innings and allowed three runs, but was the beneficiary of nine runs from the Oakland offense. Manager Bob Geren said he hoped that the win would give Mazzaro a confidence boost after a rough July. Mazzaro was 0-4 with an 8.51 ERA in July, before allowing seven runs in his first start in August. Geren did compliment Mazzaro's velocity and movement.Orioles: On Friday, Berken won for the first time since his Major League debut in a 7-5 win over the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre. Berken had lost nine straight decisions before Friday's win, in which he registered a quality start, giving up three runs in six innings. He allowed five hits and issued five walks. He struck out six batters -- his second-highest total of the season. Berken has made one start against the A's this season, lasting only 3 1/3 innings and giving up nine runs on seven hits and three walks en route to a loss.

Rays: Niemann coasted through his first six innings on Friday against the Mariners, allowing just two hits and one run. At one point, he retired 17 of 18 batters. But he lost his rhythm in the seventh, and it ended up costing him -- four earned runs -- and his team -- an 11th-inning, 7-6 loss. "He got a little quick there," manager Joe Maddon said of Niemann's fatefull seventh. Despite the no-decision, Niemann is 8-2 with a 3.13 ERA in his 14 starts since May 13. He has just one appearance against the Angels, on June 10, when he went 3 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits and four earned runs in a 9-4 Rays win.Angels: Bell, a 22-year-old right-hander born in North Hollywood, is expected to get his big shot in his Major League debut. Bell has raised his stock immensely with his best professional season after spending his first four years climbing no higher than Class A. He has improved the command of his fastball along with his offspeed stuff. Bell was lifted after two innings in his start on Saturday for Triple-A Salt Lake against Memphis, having allowed two hits but no runs. He's 3-4 with a 3.15 ERA in 11 starts in the Pacific Coast League after going 4-3 with a 2.23 ERA to start the season at Double-A Arkansas. Bell was a 2005 first-round compensation pick in the First-Year Player Draft, No. 37 overall, out of Crescenta Valley High School in Southern California.

Mets: Perez was Good Ollie against the Padres on Friday night. He gave his best and longest performance of the season, allowing two hits, two walks and a run in 6 1/3 innings. And he threw merely 93 pitches, a virtual day off for his arm. He didn't win, but he reminded colleagues of the pitcher they rarely have seen since last August. Now he faces the D-backs, the team he faced Aug. 1 at Citi Field. The Mets won that game, he didn't. He was removed after only five innings, having walked five batters and thrown 112 pitches. He allowed two earned runs in that start and now has a 2.50 ERA in 18 innings (three starts) against the D-backs in the last four seasons. But he is winless. He has pitched merely six innings -- they were scoreless -- in Chase Field in the same timeframe. Diamondbacks: Garland took a no-decision Friday in six innings against the Nationals, but probably deserved better. Handed a 5-0 lead in the second inning, Garland could not hold it, but his problems stemmed from a pair of defensive miscues by center fielder Gerardo Parra. First, Parra misplayed a single into three bases, leading to an unearned run. Two innings later he started forward on a line drive over which sailed over his head. That play was ruled a double, and led to a three-run inning off Garland.

Romero goes six innings, takes loss: Blue Jays SP Ricky Romero (10-5) lost his second meeting with Jason Berken and suffered just his second defeat in 11 starts on Friday in a 7-5 loss to Baltimore. He allowed four runs --two earned-- and four hits in six innings, walked two and struck out three.

Romero had won three starts in a row coming into Friday but allowed too many runs to make it four straight. He has been solid for most of the season with the Blue Jays

Burnett one hits the Red Sox: The Yankees couldn't get any run support for SP A.J. Burnett Friday despite the fact he allowed just one hit in 7 2/3 innings against Boston. Burnett was matched for zeros by Red Sox SP Josh Beckett. The game was decided in the 15th inning, long after both starters hit the showers. Burnett did struggle with his command at times, walking six, but he countered that with six strikeouts.

Burnett bounced back in a big way after getting shelled for seven runs in his previous start against the White Sox. Burnett has been more than effective in his first year with the Yanks and has managed to avoid a trip to the DL (knock on wood). His next scheduled outing is for Wednesday against the Blue Jays. Burnett is 1-1 with a 4.30 ERA in two starts against Toronto this season

Mazzaro finally gets another win: Vin Mazzaro ended a personal eight-game losing streak and Cliff Pennington had his first career three-hit game as the Oakland Athletics defeated the Royals 9-4 on Friday night. Mazzaro (3-8), a 22-year-old rookie right-hander, picked up his first victory since June 7. He gave up three runs and eight hits in five innings. He walked four.

Mazzaro had been pretty terrible in his past three starts, allowing six earned runs or more in each outing. He wasn't spectacular on Friday but got enough run support to beat a light-hitting Royals team. He may have salvaged his spot in the rotation with his start but still can't be trusted in anything more than AL-only formats. His next start is slated for Wednesday at Baltimore.

Jason Berken did not last long against the Red Sox on Sunday, tossing just 1 1/3 innings after giving up six earned runs on seven hits and two walks.
Berken's previous start showed signs of progression from the rookie right-hander (6 IP, 2 ER, 3 Ks) in what was just the second quality start of the year in 12 tries for the 25-year-old. He'll have to take things back to the drawing board after the Sox went to town on the youngster in what was the shortest outing of his young career. Berken will take his 6.93 ERA on the road when he next takes the mound against the Blue Jays on August 7.

Niemann was not involved in the decision Friday against the Mariners after allowing four runs on five hits over 6.1 innings.
Niemann walked just one and struck out five. After allowing two homers Friday, he's now surrendered four long balls in his last three starts after zero in his previous eight. Still, fantasy owners will take 10-5 with a 3.73 ERA.

With Joe Saunders on the disabled list the Angels reached down to triple-A Salt Lake and plucked Trevor Bell to take his place in the rotation beginning this afternoon. He'll be the 13th starting pitcher and the 11th rookie the Angels have used this season, with both numbers leading the majors. The 22-year-old right-hander was the Angels' top draft pick in 2005 and was 3-4 with Salt Lake with a 3.15 earned-run average in 11 starts.

Perez pitched 6.1 innings of 2-hit ball on Friday night, striking out seven. Over his last 16 innings, Perez has struck 19 batters out.
Perez was in line for the win before a five-run ninth off of closer Francisco Rodriguez spoiled it for him. After a 9.97 ERA through his first five starts of the season, it is beginning to look as though Perez is turning things around. Since returning from the DL on July 8, Perez has posted a 4.05 ERA through six starts.

Garland pitched a complete game Sunday against the Mets, giving up two runs and earning his sixth win of the season.
The Diamondbacks' struggles this season have limited Garland's opportunities for wins, but he's turned in seven straight quality starts, posting a 2.81 ERA in that span.

With Chad Billingsley unavailable because of a strained left hamstring, Weaver will step in to start what could be a bullpen game. Weaver, who threw three perfect innings Sunday, will be making his sixth start of the season. He is 2-1 with a 3.47 earned-run average as a starter

Lincecum allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits over seven innings Friday against the Reds, but after leaving with a 5-3 lead, the bullpen gave it up.
Lincecum's ERA actually rose two points to 2.20 after this one. A win would have been nice for his Cy Young chances, but he's still probably the front-runner there.

Nationals: The Nationals were down, 6-0, after three innings against the Marlins on Thursday. It didn't help that Stammen had nothing in the tank, lasting 1 2/3 innings and giving up six runs -- five earned -- on six hits. The problem is that Stammen is leaving his pitches up in the zone.Braves: Lowe isn't among the Major League hurlers who find comfort with the opportunity to face the Nationals. The Braves right-hander is 0-3 with a 4.03 ERA in his past four starts against them and 0-2 with a 5.02 ERA in three outings against them this year. Lowe is 4-0 with a 2.97 ERA in the six starts he's made since losing to the Nationals on July 5. His bid to win a fifth consecutive decision was erased on Thursday night, when the Braves blew a two-run, ninth-inning lead against the Dodgers.

Scouting Report:
Rangers: Hunter is coming off a 6-4 victory over the Athletics on Thursday and is 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA in two starts in August after going 3-0 with a 1.11 ERA in four starts in July. Opponents are hitting .223 off him including .247 by left-handed hitters and .200 by right-handed hitters. They are hitting .146 with runners in scoring position and Hunter has allowed just one hit in 19 at-bats with runners in scoring position and two outs. This will be his first career start against the Indians.Indians: Carmona has received two no-decisions for his efforts since his recall from the Minors, but he's showed marked improvement in terms of his ability to keep himself composed and not get thrown out of his delivery. He's allowed three runs in 11 innings over the two starts. Against the Twins on Thursday, he allowed a run on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts over six innings. Carmona allowed six runs on seven hits in five innings in a loss to the Rangers back on April 8.

Scouting Report:
Tigers: Manager Jim Leyland said Friday he has concerns about Galarraga, whose struggles to attack hitters over his past two starts have stymied what had been a midsummer roll in an otherwise frustrating season. Galarraga has been knocked out before the end of the sixth inning in his past two outings, and he was nearly chased in the second inning of his last start before lasting five innings over 109 pitches on Friday against the Twins. His nibbling at the fringes of the strike zone lately make this a tough matchup for Galarraga in Boston, though he posted a quality start against Boston in defeat on June 3 at Comerica Park. Red Sox: The ace right-hander continues to come up large for the Red Sox. In his last start, Beckett fired seven shutout innings against the Yankees, taking a no-decision in a game the Red Sox lost in 15 innings. That, following a win over the Orioles in which he also pitched seven scoreless frames. Beckett has been nothing short of brilliant at Fenway Park this season, going 7-0 with a 2.58 ERA in 10 starts. This is Beckett's first start against the Tigers since June 3, when he had a no-hitter going for 6 2/3 innings. Beckett won that game, giving up two hits and three runs, none of which were earned. He walked two and struck out nine.

Stammen roughed up by Marlins: Washington starter Craig Stammen lasted just 1 2/3 innings Thursday afternoon against the Marlins leading to the Nationals using seven pitchers. He allowed six runs -- five earned -- with two strikeouts and a walk.

Stammen has pitched a total of 9 1/3 innings over his last three starts, failing to pitch out of the fifth inning in all three. He is as close to an untouchable as their is in Fantasy baseball right now and should be avoided wherever possible for his next start at Atlanta.

Closer blows wins for Lowe against L.A.: Atlanta SP Derek Lowe had a solid outing and was in line for the win on Thursday against his former team before closer Rafael Soriano allowed a three-run, walk-off homer to Andre Ethier in the bottom of the ninth inning. Lowe tossed 6 1/3 innings against the Dodgers, allowing two earned runs on eight hits. He struck out two and walked two.

Lowe has gone between six and 6 1/3 innings in each of his last six starts, going 4-0 during that span. He has been absolutely dominant of late and should have picked up another win on Thursday. He is a high-end Fantasy SP and should be active in nearly all formats. His next start is slated for Wednesday against the Nationals.

Hunter has four wins in six starts: Tommy Hunter already has shown some remarkable poise on the mound, an uncanny ability to make pitches when the Rangers need to get out of a jam. Now, the 23-year-old right-hander is beginning to show the kind of big-picture understanding that Texas will need if it's going to make a run for the playoffs. Hunter pitched seven solid innings, allowing three hits and a pair of walks, and the Rangers defeated the Oakland Athletics 6-4 on Thursday to remain 4 1/2 games back in the AL West and avoid their first four-game sweep since April 2008. "It's what I'm supposed to do," Hunter said. "We used the bullpen a lot lately, and we needed to be fresh going into Anaheim. The big thing was getting a win going into a big series. I threw a lot of offspeed pitches. The changeup is becoming a pitch I can rely on and which makes all the other pitches better."

Hunter (4-2) came through when it mattered, shutting down the Athletics after Nomar Garciaparra gave Oakland a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Hunter allowed three runs -- two earned -- while striking out four. "He had all his pitches working, moved the ball around the zone and kept them off balance," Texas manager Ron Washington said. "We put some runs on the board, and Tommy kept the momentum in our dugout. That's exactly what you what to see." Hunter has won four of his last six starts, allowing more than two earned runs just once in that span. He is really throwing the ball well and is gaining more Fantasy value with each start. His next scheduled start is for Wednesday against the Indians.

Carmona goes six strong innings: Indians starter Fausto Carmona allowed one run and six hits over six innings Thursday afternoon against Minnesota in his second start since being recalled from the minors July 31. He did not factor in the final decision. "Fausto was erratic early, but really found it," Indians manager Eric Wedge said. "He's made mental adjustments and that has led to more consistent fundamentals."

After giving up seven runs over two innings in an 11-3 loss to Minnesota that dropped his record to 2-6, the former 19-game winner was sent to the Indians player development complex in Arizona on June 5. Minnesota put two runners on in the first, second and fifth innings, but Carmona got out of jams. Diving stops by third baseman Jhonny Peralta in the first and shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera in the fifth on sharply hit grounders turned potential run-scoring hits into outs. Control problems have been Carmona's problem over the last two years and Fantasy owners should wait until he proves consistent before trusting him. He is scheduled to face a tough Rangers lineup his next time out and is a risky play.

Galarraga gets lots of run support: Detroit SP Armando Galarraga (6-10) did not have a great outing on Friday against the Twins but got loads of run support in a 10-8 win. He tossed five innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits. He walked five and struck out three.

Galarraga has gotten worked in his last start, giving up eight earned runs on 11 hits in 5 2/3 innings. He has run hot and cold this season but has been pretty bad in his past three starts. He is just an AL-only and deeper mixed format starter. His next outing is slated for Wednesday at Boston.

Beckett pitches seven scoreless in ND: Red Sox SP Josh Beckett pitched seven strong innings Friday against the Yankees, but was matched for zeros by A.J. Burnett and didn't factor in the extra-inning affair. Beckett allowed just four hits and two walks in seven scoreless innings. He also struck out seven while lowing his ERA to 3.12.

Beckett has not allowed a run in his last two starts and pitched well enough Friday to win for a fifth time in six starts. Since he has been relatively healthy in 2009, Beckett has looked like a Cy Young candidate again and reverted to being a reliable high-end Fantasy SP. His next scheduled start is for Wednesday against the Tigers. Beckett is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA against Detroit this season.

Norris Ks seven for second MLB win: Bud Norris struck out seven in six effective innings in his Minute Maid Park debut and the Houston Astros beat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-3 on Friday night. Norris (2-0), a 24-year-old rookie, allowed two runs and three hits in his second major-league start. He came up from the minors on July 29, and threw seven shutout innings to win his first start last Sunday in St. Louis. Norris struck out at least one batter in all six of his innings. He fanned Felipe Lopez to end the third and Frank Catalanotto to finish the fourth. J.J. Hardy led off the fifth with a single and Kendall hit his first homer of the season into the left-field porch. Kendall's first home run since Sept. 8, 2008, ended Norris' scoreless streak as a starter at 11 innings. The rookie was also a bit wild, walking five.

Despite the five walks, we still have to give Norris a hot tag since he has been outstanding in his first two major-league starts. This kid was mowing down hitters in the minors before his recall and it doesn't appear he wants to slow down. Norris is definitely a Fantasy sleeper for the stretch run. His next scheduled start is for Wednesday against the Marlins.

Nolasco goes seven innings for win: Ricky Nolasco pitched seven sharp innings, Nick Johnson and Cody Ross hit solo homers and the Marlins beat the Phillies 3-2 Friday night. Nolasco (8-7) allowed two runs and four hits, striking out seven.

Nolasco has been outstanding since returning from a brief stint in the minors. Florida's opening day starter was demoted to Triple-A New Orleans on May 23 after going 2-5 with a 9.07 ERA. He's 6-2 with a 2.58 ERA in 12 starts since being recalled. He is a solid Fantasy option in most mixed formats. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday against the Astros.

14 fucking hit for J's and only 3 runs

On the flip side only 5 hits for the bombers three solo home runs.

Oh well shit happens.
