(CBS) <!-- sphereit start--> Former pro-football star Michael Vick speaks to CBS Sports NFL Today Anchor James Brown on 60 Minutes in his first interview since he admitted two years ago to running a dogfighting ring - a crime that landed him in federal prison for 18 months and got him suspended from the NFL.

The interview, conducted Monday, Aug. 10 in Virginia, will be broadcast on 60 Minutes this Sunday, Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. ET/PT.

The ex-Atlanta Falcon's quarterback was conditionally re-instated by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on July 27, a week after he was released from federal custody. If a team is interested in him, Vick could be playing again in a regular league game by the sixth week of the NFL season.

The segment will also include interviews with Wayne Pacelle, president of the Humane Society of the United States, the country's largest organization dedicated to the protection of animals. Tony Dungy, the former NFL coach who will be a special advisor to Vick, will also be interviewed.

What would happen to Vick without Tony Dungy?
He is very lucky to have him in his corner.

These 60 minutes interviews can go real good or real bad.

I hope he has been given the questions beforehand and has rehearsed his answers. I want him to make a comeback and yes he is LUCKY to have Tony Dungy on his side!

Great response by Vick....IMO...Should be a good interview and help mike get back in the NFL...IMO

they keep showing this same damn promo vid. Kinda getting sick of it.

Michael Vick and his brother are sorry excuses for human beings. The Eagles even allowing him to step on the field representing them and the NFL is sad. This guy is garbage (ala Lawrence Phillips Pacman Jones) and will find trouble again.

<!-- ARTICLE CONTENT START --> When CBS' familiar "60 Minutes" clock ticks, ending the interview with Michael Vick that airs Sunday night, there will be only one loser. And it won't be the dog-killing quarterback campaigning to return to the National Football League.
Whether coincidental or calculated, the plan to rehabilitate Vick's image has been somewhat effective, in large part, because it's fronted by some very credible - and spiritual - citizens.
It also helps that dogs - dead or alive - can't talk. Or be interviewed on "60 Minutes."
Anyway, when Tony Dungy agrees to take on the role of mentor, it leaves a perception - especially in NFL circles - that Vick is actually serious about redemption. When Vick (or his advisers) singled out James Brown to conduct this "60 Minutes" interview, he did it realizing the questions will be delivered by a likeable personality who has always displayed a deep social, and religious, conscience.
Beyond the respect Brown engenders, Vick also knew whomever he selected to interview him would be more inclined, out of appreciation for this prime access, to be sympathetic. Or at least that would be the perception - one of many that, no matter what questions he asks, will make it extremely difficult for Brown to emerge from the interview unscathed.
In an excerpt of the interview released by CBS Thursday (it was taped Monday), Brown twice asks Vick "What about the dogs?" But, after the entire interview is aired, two questions will remain: Was Brown looking to hold Vick's feet to the fire, asking questions on behalf of innocent animals who could not defend themselves? Or was Brown looking to protect the interests, and preserve the future, of Vick, the man granting him this grand access?
Get it? Brown could be the big loser here.
Part of his role as anchor of CBS' "The NFL Today" includes Brown playing the clown card and participating in forced stupidity, which is strongly encouraged by the suits in charge. In the interview, Brown's motivation will be entirely different.
In this "60 Minutes" forum, with so much at stake from a journalistic standpoint, he cannot roll over for Vick. The interview will be the first time Vick gets a chance to testify before the court of public opinion since his release from prison. He will attempt to convince a jury of eyeballs that he is a changed man - a contrite soul worthy of again cashing a fat NFL paycheck.
If Brown is on a truth-seeking mission, he cannot allow Vick to be too convincing. Brown told the NFL Network that Vick "knew that it was gonna be a tough interview." Still it won't be tough enough to satisfy the wide variety of viewers - especially the dog lovers - tuning in.

Vick is a sorry excuse of a human being. He should really just go into hiding. Whether you like animals or not, to hurt, torture, mutilate anyone or anything living that is considerably weaker than you (children, elderly, animals), you are seriously f'd in the head and deserve to be cast off from society. You do not deserve a second chance at anything. This isnt the first time this thug, this low-life, has been in trouble with the law either. This guy will find trouble again.

I say put Vick in the ring with a MMA fighter and if he loses have the MMA fighter electrocute him, drown him, and beat him.

To me, Vick is not a human, but an animal and should be considered as one.

Dude, what Vick did was wrong but you need to calm down a bit.

Sorry about your loss BadCo .....i just went thru this 2 months ago ....a 14 yo collie and 3 weeks later a 15 yo cat.

Please, give me a break. Vick ran the operation. What does he mean he didn't step up. It was his full time job outside of football.

He is only contrite because he wants to play and mostly earn money.

I will give him he deserves to be able make a living but I just can't get past what he did...........But thats just me.


I am going to check out a litter of Labs born Aug 8th on Wed.

Have a 2 year old Aussie and he misses him also,just for instance when I came home from work the next day he greeted me as usual then looked out the window looking for his buddy.

He does the same thing when my family is out of town and I get home.

If you want to try a new breed Bad Co. I'd suggest the dane. Best dog I've ever had. Nice and mellow and great with the kids. The black danes are the best. Very solid choice.

Yeah but as hard as this is to grieve,don't Great Danes have a short life expectancy?

That and I spend half my life so it seems scooping poop as it is.........LOL

I miss going to the river with my dog,of course the past couple of years I didn't take him to the river as he would go balls out and be sore for days.

About 8-12 years. Ours is 6 now and doing fine. She only eats two times a day and only takes one giant steamer a day so it's not bad.
