Yeah...get a netbook. No need for a laptop if that's all you're going to do with it.

I read where Acer was going to release netbooks with the Google Android operating system. I would look into that if they're out yet. Regardless, Acers are dirt cheap and will get the job done.

Yeah I have one of the ACER netbooks.

No real complaints...especially just for web surfing.

But never, ever, ever buy an extended warranty.
I agree. My bro worked there while he was in college, he said that was the big money maker for them. That along with upper tier cables (They are VERY over priced.)

Stuff is so cheap these days that if it flakes, just buy a newer better one.

Geek squad brings in the bucks too. But they have good deals and selection on the bigger ticket items.

I feel bad for people who pay for geek squad.

I don't know of any netbooks that have rom capabilities...if it does it probably isn't a netbook.

But microsoft office, playing poker, casino, etc..absolutely.

Make sure you get a six cell battery if your gonna be away from a outlet a lot otherwise battery life is bad with just a three cell.

The guy who writes my racing software that I use tried an Acer netbook and returned it, basically said it was garbage.
Recommended a Lenovo netbook if someone really desired a netbook.

Acer does have a very bad reputation and would never recommend one to anyone.I bought a MSi U123 and am very happy with it.

I got a netbook this week. Had really no need for one, but there was a good deal on them and I couldn't pass it up.

What I got is an Acer Aspire One with an 8-inch screen, 16GB solid-state drive, 1GB RAM and the 1.6 Atom processor.

It had Windows XP on it when it arrived, but it ran pretty slowly out of the box. I stripped that OS and put in a customized version of TinyXP. That sped things up immensely.

So far it's been a good little something to keep handy for checking e-mail and this forum, but the small screen makes using it get uncomfortable pretty quickly. It's also next to impossible to type with any speed or accuracy on the little keyboard.

I like it, and I can see it coming in handy, but it needed quite a bit of customization before it was really good to use.

If a person wants a second computer to keep by the couch during football games to check other scores, make in-game bets and keep up with the forum, I'd recommend a netbook. If a person wants to do things like use Office, watch video or anything involving a CD, it's better to get a regular laptop.

For the record: Acer has a bad reputation with laptops. Their netbooks, though, are consistently reviewed as one of the best.

I actually just got one today. From what I've used so far. It's great for simple things and just surfing the web. I even downloaded a few poker sites and other things and they work well. Tough to get used to the typing however.

Can anyone comment on netbooks for streaming audio?

And second, can you plug standard computer speakers in and/or headphones?
