Won 6 in a row...

YTD: 7-6

ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS +1.5 (-145)

Wish I had the balls to take them straight up, because I think they match up well with the Braves today. Max Scherzer has pitched twice against Atlanta this year, one time getting shelled at home, and the other time pitching brilliantly on the road. Today, they are at Turner field, and in his first start against the Braves, Scherzer pitched 6 shutout innings, in a 12-0 Arizona victory. The D'Backs have been playing good baseball lately, taking two out of three from the NL West-leading Dodgers, and winning two out of three of Scherzer's last three starts. I am cautious about going up against Tommy Hanson however. The kid is nasty, and is putting together one hell of a rookie season. He has faced a couple potholes in the road lately, but has bounced back to beat Washington and San Diego in his last two starts. Being without McCann and McLouth today will hurt the Braves offense, and I think Arizona can hang with them, especially with the lack of a bullpen that the Braves have. BOL to all!

Gonna concede this one early..

Now that I have that out of my system...

MILWAUKEE BREWERS -118

This isn't so much a play on the Brewers as it is a fade on the Pirates. Milwaukee is not playing great baseball by any means, but there isn't a colder team in baseball than Pittsburgh. Judging by their weekend debacle in Chicago, they are ready to scrap the rest of this season and start anew. It's not like going home to PNC Park is a morale booster either. They have lost their last 8 games at home, and 12 out of their last 13 games overall. Kevin Hart did very well during his brief stay in Chicago, but since being traded to Pittsburgh, it's almost as if he's been infected by the atmosphere as well. He's been hit hard in his two starts for the Bucko's, including losing his last decision at Colorado. His WHIP has jumped from 1.48 with the Cubs to 1.68 with the Pirates, and 1.54 overall for the season. Carlos Villanueva is making his 5th start for the Brewers after working most of the season out of the 'pen. He has gotten progressively better in each of his last four starts. Noteworthy though, is the fact that he has been a much better pitcher on the road than at home (2.86 ERA, 1.15 WHIP). Bottom line is that I am willing to take my chances on the Brewers at this price, not only because I feel like there is some value there, but because the Pirates are on their way to the worst record in baseball. BOL!

Last play of the night...

St. Louis Cardinals -155

Biggest play of the day for me. I love this matchup, because I honestly believe we will see these two teams battling it out in October. Playoff atmosphere tonight with the Cardinals ace on the mound at Dodger Stadium, and I love the Cardinals in this spot against a knuckleballer making his first start for the Dodgers. As soon as the Cards nabbed Matt Holliday, I said they would win the National League pennant this year. That may or may not happen, but I feel like they are a superior team now because of that trade. The Dodgers have been struggling on offense lately, and tonight will be tough for them to break out of that slump. They are going up against Cy Young hopeful Chris Carpenter, with his sparkling 12-3 record and 2.23 ERA. Moreover, his sub-1.00 WHIP does not bode well for the Dodgers, who are coming off a series loss at Arizona. The Dodgers send out knuckleballer Charlie Haeger to the mound, who had nice numbers at AAA, but is making his first start in the bigs since 2006 (White Sox). Knuckleballers are traditionally inconsistent, and I expect this kid to be the same. Going against a potent lineup and superior pitcher, I feel that even at this price, the Cardinals have nice value. Hasn't been a great day for me thus far, but we are going to right the ship with this one fellas. BOL!!

No offense but I think you jinxed yourself. I'm thinking about getting on the Cardinals tonight though, so I hope you salvage your night and get another nice run going. Good Luck nubbs.

Yeah. This is probably the biggest LAD has been a dog at home this season, but I think the line is right. I'm gonna take a stab at Yanks RL even though its a little steep.
