LAA -120

You might look at Ervin Santana's 5-6 record and 6.38 ERA and say "How do you take the Angels with Santana? Well, Santana is going for his 3rd straight win following a three-hit shutout against Tampa just last week and the Angels try to continue a streak that has seen them win 7 of 10 overall (hitting .322 during that stretch) and 19-6 on the road since June 15th. They'll be trying to take 3 out of 4 against the O's who will start rookie RHP David Hernandez. Two things that aren't good for the O's here is Hernandez is a rookie and he'll be facing the team with a Major League best .295 average against RHP. Hernandez is also 1-2 with a 5.79 ERA in his last three starts.

I like the Angels here because I just don't like to back bad teams and let's be honest in saying that Baltimore is a bad team. They also got worse today by losing another left-handed bat when they traded Aubrey Huff to the Tigers. LAA plays great on the road going 34-23 on the year while Baltimore is only 2-7 in their last 9 home games.

Only 3 teams in all of baseball are worse than the O's and it's just the right play here to back the team with MLB's second best record and a team that is playing great against a team that flat out stinks laying a very small number.

Good luck.

As bad as Baltimore may be, they are still a .500 team at home.
Good luck with Anaheim.

NYY RL -140

Despite yesterday's 3-0 loss to the Oakland A's, the Yankees still come into Tuesday's matchup with the best record in baseball. NYY comes into the matchup having lost two straight and hasn't lost three straight since late July. They're also 2-1 in games following being shut out. The Yanks have won 5 of the 7 matchups against the A's this year covering the RL in each of those wins.

The Yanks throw out Cy Young contender C.C. Sabathia and the only thing that concerns me is his history in Oakland where he's gone only 1-4 with a 7.12 ERA. That said, he is 3-0 with a 2.38 ERA over his last three starts and beat Oakland earlier in the year. The A's send out rookie Vin Mazarro who is 2-1 over his last 3 starts but has a 7.04 ERA in those games. Mazarro started strong for the A's winning his first two games but went on a terrible 0-8 7.72 ERA streak after that and was defeated by the Yanks earlier in the year.

Key Stats:

Sabathia has only given up one earned run and 5 hits in his last two starts.

NYY is 9-2 over the teams last 11 meetings.

The A's only hit .247 against LHP.

COLORADO RAWKS -160

Like I said Monday night backing the Angels I really like backing decent teams playing terrible teams. I don't like putting hard earned money on terrible teams and the Nationals are one of those teams. With the worst record in baseball (43-76) the Nats send rookie Colin Balester to the hill. Balester is 1-2 with a 6.00 ERA and has given up 21 homers in the first 104 innings of his young career. Balester is 0-1 with a 7.20 in his last 3 starts.

The Rocks throw out 13 game winner Jason Marquis who only has 8 loses and a 3.55 ERA. Marquis beat the Nats earlier pitching a shutout on the 6th of July. Marquis has to be feeling good facing a team that has scored three runs or less in their last 5 of 7.

Key Stats:

Colorado has beaten the Nats 20 of the last 26 meetings.
Colorado is 19-7 in their last 26 as a favorite.
Colorado has taken all 4 matchups thus far this season.

Good luck.

CARDS -160

Again today I'm backing a very good team against a very bad team. I just don't think you can go wrong backing solid pitching, good defense and the best player in baseball against a terrible team. I know the Padres would be a great hit on the money line but I can't back a shitty baseball team.

The St. Louis Cardinals come into this game red hot winning 10 of their last 12. They've taken all three of their matches against the Padres thus far this year including one on the 15th of August by tonight's starter Joel Pineiro. How has Pineiro pitched? Well, he's only 5-0 with a 2.91 ERA over his last 8 starts and the Cards have subsequently won all of those games. He is also 2-0 in his last 3 starts and defeated Padres starter Tim Stauffer 7-4.

The Padres...well let's just say they are terrible. They come into the game winning only 4 of their last 10 games and on the year only hit .246 aginst RHP. Tim Stauffer gets the ball and has lost his last 3 starts lasting a total of 15 innings. I

I expect the Cards to continue their winning ways in San Diego tonight.

Key Stats:

The Cards have beaten the Pads 8 straight times.
St. Louis hits .270 against RHP on the year.
STL is 23-6 in their last 29 games as a favorite.
The Padres just suck!

LA DODGERS -144

Most people aren't reading this post everyday but I hope it's helpful and we can keep the streak going. The Dodgers have alternated wins and losses in their last 6 games but far and away they are the superior team in this matchup. Thus far this year they've taken 3 of 5 matchups from the Cubs including a very easy 7-2 victory last night.

The Dodger send Randy Wolf to the mound tonight in Chavez Ravine. Over Wolf's last 3 games he's a solid 2-0 with a 3.18 ERA. Wolf beat Wells on May 28th 2-1.

What about the Cubs? Well, they've really struggled over the last two weeks losing 7 of 10 games and 10 of 14. Randy Wells gets the ball for the Cubs and had a very solid last outing and is 2-1 with a 3.86 in his last three outings. The Cubs have a 5.32 ERA in their last 10 games and are hitting only .257 vs. LHP.

Look for the Dodgers to further bury the Cubs out West.

Key Stats:

The Cubs are just 3-8 over their last 11.
The Cubs are 2-6 in the last 8 meetings between the two.
The Dodgers are 19-7 in Wolf's last 26 starts as favorites.

Had the Dodgers last night and Vin Scully was rapping off the Cubs woes vs. NL west.

He said sweet Lou attributed it to the large parks out here on the left coast as his team is built for Wrigely.

Guess what I;m getting at here is seems to me the Cubs are in a bad mind set right now?

Good luck on your POD.

I wouldn't lay money on any team slumping like the Cubs. That's just baseball capping 101. Bet the streaks.

PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES RL -135

Again, I'll probably feel like a broken record but I always feel good backing one of the league's best against one of the league's worst teams and this is what we have here. The Phills are 37-21 on the road this year and have won 5 of their last 7.

The fightin' Phils send rookie J.A. Happ to the mound and what has this rookie done this year? Well, he's only 9-2 with a 2.66 ERA including a very solid 4-1 and 1.92 ERA on the road. He's 2-0 with a 1.19 ERA in his last 3 starts.

Although the Mets snuck one away from the Phills last night let's not kid ourselves about how bad this team sucks. They have been killed by injuries and have lost 4 of their last 7. They are a terrible 1-7 of their last 8 following a win and they send Tim Redding to the hill today. Redding is just 1-3 in 9 starts this year with a 6.99 ERA. He's 1-1 over his last 3 starts with a 8.59 ERA.

Look for the Phills to come back from their loss last night and jump on the Mets early and often.

Key Stats:

Phillies have won 8 of 10.
NYM starters have a 5.82 ERA over their last 10 games.

BOSTON/NYY UNDER 9 -143

A primetime matchup tonight on ESPN between the NY Yankees and Boston Red Sox. Does it really get any better than this in baseball? You must be thinking wow....the first two games of this series saw tons of runs scored and why would that change for the 3rd game? I honestly think the line would be about 7-7.5 had those games not unfolded the way they did so let's consider 8.5-9 a gift.

Coming into this matchup we have two of the frontrunners in the AL for the Cy Young, Josh Beckett (14-4 3.38) against C.C. Sabathia (14-7 3.58). On one hand you have the team at the top of their game against a team fighting to get back into the playoff race. Make no mistake, these two pitchers and members of each team have played in big time games with the baseball world's eyes squarely on their shoulders. Both pitchers have performed well and at the hightest level and this game and the pressure will not distract them one bit. In fact, I think both are their best when the pressure is on.

Sabathia has come alive over his last three outings going 3-0 with a 1.14 ERA. This guy is a workhorse and facing Boston this year he is 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA. Although not as impressive in his last three games Beckett has been solid going 2-1 with a 4.19 ERA. He is 2-0 with a 4.12 ERA against the Yanks so far this year. What I see is a classic pitchers duel between two of the games best starting pitchers with neither blinking. Just think back a week ago when we couldn't stop talking about how bad the Boston offense was. Good pitching will always trump good hitting and that's been proven time and time again.

I look for a lot of bettors to take the over but I'm on the under in this one.

Key Stats:

The Under has hit in 8 of 14 matchups between the two this year.
The Under has hit in 8 of 10 Sunday Night ESPN matchups.

God what a bad beat last night. I've never had what happened to me happen in that game. Oh well, drop your funds on the better team with the better pitcher tonight. Good luck.
