I ended up with a virus Tuesday Night on my desktop. The desktop is where I keep all my pictures and important information. It would of been a huge loss! I asked for help, and within an hour I had replies and ideas.

I am NOT a computer person by ANY strech of the imagination, but with your help I was able to finally get it fixed without losing any data!

The is a credit to you all. No matter what the subject or question some here knows the answer and is willing to share...

A big THANK YOU!:)<<

Just for future people. If you start your computer and "AV CARE" or "Total Security" antivirus comes up telling you your computer is infected, DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM> They are trying to get your money and your credit card number. google it, you will see.

There is many ways to fix it, but the longer you wait the more you cant do.. For instances the first night I was able to bring up the task manager, I was not able to do that later.. I downloaded Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (someone provide the link for that) this is an incredible software. I was not able to open it after downloading. In fear I would lose data, I copied all my important pics and info to a backup source... I then restarted my computer and put it in safe mode with networking.... I was able to run Malwarebytes and it caught most of my problems....

I tried many things, and this simple solution worked, so if any of you get hit with that awful headache of a virus, hope that fixes it for you !

THANK YOU!

Glad to hear that booting up into Safe Mode (pressing F8 on bootup) allowed you to run your anti-virus and clean it out. Some viruses prevent anti-virus programs from start but booting into Safe Mode only starts up basic services so the virus doesn't have a chance to block things.

So true. I have really got into the habit have using a thumb drive for everything media based. That way if anything goes wrong I can just take it right out of the USB port.

Correct

One of the easiest ways to backup data and photos is to mail them to yourself using a Yahoo or Hotmail online email account.

If anything happens to your hard drive, you can simply download the Attached items from your Yahoo mail into repaired or new hard drive

You still might want to take the computer to a store and have them run a thorough scan. It shouldn't cost much and it would be worth the peace of mind to be absolutely sure no trojans or anything are still in hiding.
