Alright, I think I have a virus. I try going to a website, and some red screen pops up saying that " this page is infected by malicious advertising code." blah blah blah. Then it goes to a website, where it says blank:// I cant get on for more than five minutes at a time. I ran my antivirus scan, but still exists.

The About:Blank homepage hijacker is a variation of a more advanced Cool Web Search hijacker. There are several variants of the About:Blank

This could be the problem. Do a search on "about blank" for additional soultions. Hope this helps.

Run Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware Free Edition. Both free and will take care of 99% of problems. I've fixed a computer with the same exact problem using both and then installing a free virus scanner to keep up with future problems.

Don't know your OS,,but in Vista..

press F8 , before windows starts ..

menu will appear ... start in "Safe Mode with Networking"

this will keep you up and running to download ...

this takes a bit of time:
also you can (in whatever Anti Virus, you are currently running) go into "settings" and schedule a "BOOT SCAN" ,,which will go through every line-file and detect malicious software.

Could also be smitfraud, which can be removed by installing a file in Safe Mode and running the program

Contact me at home, J, if this persists and you can't get it solved.

Malwarebytes. Download it, do the update, run the Quick Scan. It's free, and there's not much it won't get rid of.

If you had the trojan which infected my pc some weeks ago, it is very tricky to get rid of, as it blocked me from running any security software and redirected any internet searches I would do. I even considered getting a new computer, because I couldn't get rid of it. Until I came upon this:

<dl><dt>http://www.myantispyware.com/2009/01/24/how-to-remove-windowsclickcom-redirect-uacdsys-trojan</dt></dl>Just follow the instructions...You can skip step 1 as it typically won't show the malicious drivers to disable...start with step 2.

It took me about 4-5 hours total to remove this bastard as initially it didn't work, but after reading through the comments (and there are lots of them), it cleaned me right up and my pc now runs smoother than it has in a long time.

Seriously, don't get frustrated at first...It's crucial to read through the comments and use the tips given...and it's time-consuming reading through the comments and getting rid of this sob, but man turns out to be a life-saver.

What is VIPRE Antivirus + Antispyware?

VIPRE is the end of antivirus software as you know it.

Is your antivirus program slowing down your PC? Ditch your old antivirus software for high-performance, next-gen antivirus + antispyware that IS NOT a resource hog.

PC Magazine's security expert Neil Rubenking gave VIPRE an excellent review with 4 STARS and said: "As its name indicates, Sunbelt Software's VIPRE Antivirus + Antispyware is designed to handle all kinds of malicious software, and it does a very thorough job." Robert Vamosi's CNET review of VIPRE said: "7.8 out of 10: Very Good. VIPRE combines antivirus and antispyware technology in a fast and light application that also includes a worthy set of security tools." The Editors at Download.com gave it even 5 STARS.

ZDNet said in their security blog: "Sunbelt Software's VIPRE - I've finally found an antivirus package that delivers the goods.http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/rd/?id=080810BA-zdnet1 In a follow-up posting they did a performance shoot-out and concluded: "Sunbelt Software's claim that VIPRE doesn't hog system resources and doesn't slow down a PC isn't just marketing hyperbole but is actually true."http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/rd/?id=080810BA-zdnet2 VIPRE is now also on TV in the UK. You can watch the review on QVC, where VIPRE got 5 Stars and sold out in 3 minutes! 'Watch QVC Video Presentation'</I>.

NOTE: Are you testing Windows 7? Download the Beta version of VIPRE that is fully compatible with Windows 7 here.</I>.

Hi,I acquired some viruses on my comp tonight being stupid clicking links that I was unfamiliar with trying to find a stream for the fight.I don't have any disks here so I downloaded the malwarebytes free edition from malwarebytes.org when I try to RUN it,i can't.I get an error message that says "this application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect.Reinstalling the application may fix the problem."All of my icons are giving me this message when I try to open them,I had to go to the start menu to open firefox.
Can someone please help me out so I can get these viruses off of my computer.TIA

try this free trial from Vipre...I use it and paid for the subscription it runs differently and works great then the standard virus program and it should run for you to remove what you have which sounds very bad you might have a worm that has embedded itself deep in your hard drive ..do a deep scan
