Has anyone ever quit their job right on the spot? Or told their boss(es) to go f'ck themselves and walked out?

I've been with the same company for 18 years. I've done relatively well, been a loyal employee, haven't taken a sick day in over 10 years, etc. Long story, but like many firms recently, we are in the process of a "merger of equals.". There is a high probability that the person at the other company we are merging with that has my job there, may very well get the job we both hold now, making me the runner-up...number 2 on the depth chart (so to speak). If this is true and it comes to fruition, I am VERY tempted to tell my bosses to go f'ck themselves and walkout.

Anyone I speak to about this says, "never quit a job until you have another one lined up," but I am fed up with this bullsh!t after 18 years of humping my tail off for these pricks.

It sounds like you would be burning bridges. Unless that bridge is already burned for whatever reason, it might be better go out gracefully.

for unemployment reasons, don't tell your boss to fuck himself. if you're truly unhappy, just stop giving a shit. if you got other outs, then yeah, telling the boss to go fuck himself would be cool....

I would definitely be burning bridges and realize the "mature" and rational thing to do would be to take it graciously. Meanwhile, I could continue to network and find a new job, all the while not giving a sh!t.

I am also responsible enough to realize that if I did quit it would be hard to explain to my wife (and baby) why we no longer had health insurance and no more income coming in....that's unless my wife wanted to go back to work and get three or four jobs.

Apologies for the bitching, just needed to vent a little.

Right now, things are as cool with them (current bosses) as they've always been. Irony is that I like the guy from the other place better. I've known him for several years. He's not a phony like these other lying scumbag leeches.

For unemployment reasons I would say do not do this. If this was not an issue, I would be all for it.

I thought the only way you can collect unemployment is if you were fired from your job or were laid off, not quit????????

Marcellus Wallace was pretty wise when he said, "That's pride fucking with you. Fuck pride."

Stick around at least long enough to see how things shake out. You never know what new opportunities you haven't even thought of yet may present themselves in the new version of the company.

Exactly. If he tells off his boss he would be fired meaning he couldn't collect unemplyment. If he plays it cool, he will be laid off in place of the other guy.

When I was 19 I worked at Thrifty Drug Stores and the assistant manager used to like to give me shit when the hot chicks were working on his shift.

So one night I just finished filling up the half gallon ice cream packs in the freezer and some customer about 20 minutes before closing bought a half gallon of butter pecan ice cream. That motherfucker wanted me to go all the way back freezer and retrieve one half gallon of ice cream. Believe me its a bitch of a job to grab ice cream from the back freezer because you have to move around cages and cages of ice cream from a tiny storage freezer. Trust me it would have taken me about 40 minutes to do that shit. Well he kept on telling me to do it and blah, blah, blah. So I made a big assscene in front of coworkers, customers and all and started to cuss my assistant manager out and started to throw half gallon ice cream boxes at his ass.

Here is the kicker though, I didn't get fired. All the Store Manager did was write me up. Sometime later I got into it again with that same assistant manager and cussed him out again in front of the whole store and they ended up sending me home and mailed my final check to my house via UPS.

Thinking back on it now I got away with a lot shit at that job. I fucked coworkers, stole money and items, was rude to customers and even one time threw a glass bottle of dr pepper at a customer who pissed me off. It so happened that customer disrespected me just as I was getting off of work. When I clocked out was walking out front to my car I saw that dude on the pay phone in front of the store so I acted on impulse and threw my soda bottle just above the phone to start some shit with him.

I was pretty wild in my youth. I thought I was invincible.

Yep!

Walked right out the door after a 28 year career. Gave no notice. Just said good-bye to my staff and have never gone or looked back. Heard they were looking for me the next day for a meeting and were told I had left the day before for good.

you can be a dirtbag and get fired, i.e: call in sick 5 days in a row, become incompetent, develop a shitty attitude toward others, any number of things.

just don't tell the boss to go fuck himself if you want to claim the unemployment. if the employer can show that you quit of your own free will, you're screwed. otherwise, just develop a nosepicking, silent fart emitting problem, and you're golden
