Wow.....I saved myself some money on this one. With Team Totals....I look for decent batting teams who slump in Run Scoring.....usually going 3-7 or 2-8 in their last 10 games before I look for a pitcher that they fare well against. I usually play this one much earlier than now.
I know you noticed the losing streak of the Phillies, but did you notice that they have not scored more than 4 Runs in over 13 Games????? Its amazing really that they won 6 games over that stretch, but at some point they must get back to playing good Offensive baseball. The players like and respect Pedro Martinez, and although he pitched a gem the last time out, the Phillies had to score 9 and 12 Runs in his other starts to ensure victory.
John Lannen has been good medicine for Philly over the last 2 years. He is 0-5, with Philly scoring 4, 10, 7, 4, and 4 runs against Washington. Overall in 7 starts against Philly he is 0-5 with a 5.89 ERA. Several batters have not only had success against Washington in general but Lannen as well. 3 batters, Utley, Ibanez, and Ruiz have .500+ batting averages against him and over half the line-up is batting .286 or better against him.
Lannen himself has struggled lately as he has lost or no-decisioned his last 5 starts and in his last 3 games has an 8.59 ERA with a 1.70 WHIP. The year seems to be growing heavy on him and its a bad spot to meet a team who is WAY OVERDUE and has batters who LOVE to hit against him, and also know that they will probably have to score more than normal to keep Pedro undefeated. Also, Philadelphia has scored more than 4 Runs in 9 of the 12 games played against Washington this season.
This one is worth a shot....
