thought david robinson had the best speech of the night. also like how john stockton said in his 30 years playing basketball that he was never the best player on his team.

That writer is an idiot. Thats why Jordan is the best athlete and the biggest winner to ever play any sport.

The arrogance and will to be the best even when he is done is why he was the greatest ever in any sport.

When you cant be a winner (like this writer) you have to spew hate

No surprise that Jordan was an ass up there. By all accounts he is one...... but who wouldn't be if EVERYONE has been kissing your ass for the past 30 years.

thought the speech was a little odd also. A little too much look at me. It was like he wanted to make sure no one forgot about his legacy.

Maybe most expectations were a little high for this day.

The thing was when he tried to be funny, he laughed at others instead of himself. Made him look a little full of himself (which I am sure he is for obvious reasons).

If there is one time in your life to be humble and gracious it would be in that setting. To each his own I guess.

It would have been just as good as walking up and saying "Thank you" and walking off, like he said he would do.

to each his own, you're right. If you always were his fan it won't change your thoughts about him. If you never like him, this will just reaffirm your belief that he's a cutthroat asshole. If you were always indifferent to MJ or just liked watching him play during those years, then I can certainly see how he came across as arrogant.

You could tell this was an emotional moment for an emotional man. I thought the end of the speech was strong. I also think David Thompson was a great choice as presenter. Thompson was the best college baller of my generation (in a thirty year span, beside Len Bias, I have never seen another player heat the floor and take big time games with same electricity as David Thompson). I can understand Jordan's decision to go outside the Carolina/Chicago family with Thompson because of roots and shared media heat lamp cooking. Delivered from the best player in history of NBA, I thought the speech spoke with tons of humility (paying respects to others on the stage).
