And the Bills let them off the hook ! Patriots have lost a lot of key players on the defensive side of the ball and I can't see them winning the Super Bowl this year with that defense !

Hmm I viewed the game a lot differently than you did.. I thought the defense kept them in it the whole game. The defensive backs were 1000 times better than last years crop, and their run defense was impressive too... especiialy considering when they lost their best player on defense (Mayo) in the first half to injury still keeping the Bills under 100 yards on the ground.

The Bills scoring drives continued twice in the second half on two VERY questionable calls... both sacks that would have forced impossible conversions where the refs protected Edwards. Adalius was questionable, Wilfork should have never been called. The Pats D also got them off the field... only 4 for 10 on 3rd down conversions.

Same here.
The Pats looked very shakey and boy any of the top AFC teams will have a field day with that defense. They cannot stop the run or the pass.

I looked at more of Buffalo coughing the game up than the Pats winning it.

Sorry this is NOT the same 16-0 Pats. I think the Jets will carve up that defense. If Leodis McKelvin knees it in the endzone, Buffalo wins the game.

I said before the season that the Pats wouldn't make the playoffs...they got a gift today....

Their defense is old, slow, and horrible..

Not sure if they'll miss the playoffs, but it won't be a cake walk like years past.
In the AFC, Baltimore & Pittsburgh are much better.

New England -6.5 +113 @ NY Jets

This line may move to 7, but Jets look very tempting...

Patriots' glory days just a memory

When the New England Patriots won their third Super Bowl in four years in Jacksonville on Feb. 6, 2005, the horizon seemed limitless for them.
Tom Brady was 27, and coach Bill Belichick was 52. Both were still in their prime.
It was taken for granted that they'd win at least another Super Bowl and maybe even two or three more.
Brady had a chance to match Terry Bradshaw and Joe Montana as the only quarterbacks to win four Super Bowls, and Belichick had a chance to match Chuck Noll as a four-time Super Bowl-winning coach.
Five years later, the Patriots dynasty is in ruins, and the team has yet to win another Super Bowl.
The Patriots lost at Denver in the 2005 playoffs and at Indianapolis in the 2006 playoffs. They went to the Super Bowl after the 2007 season with an 18-0 record and were upset by the New York Giants.
Then Brady was hurt in the opener last season. He's returned, but the Patriots are only 7-5 after a 22-21 loss to Miami on Sunday.
Age and a series of so-so drafts have caught up with the Patriots. For example, they have one player (Brandon Merriweather) left from the 2007 draft.
Key defensive players like Tedy Bruschi, Mike Vrabel, Richard Seymour, Asante Samuel and Rodney Harrison are gone, and New England hasn't replaced them with players of equal caliber.
And nobody seems more mystified than Brady, who's been criticizing his teammates.
He questioned the toughness of the team after the Miami loss, according to the Providence (R.I.) Journal.
He said it was important to be "mentally tough" and then added, "When things don't go your way, you fight back."
Then in a radio interview, he questioned the team's work ethic.
"I think when it gets hard, that's when you have to dig deep. At times, we do that. And other times, it doesn't show up. We've all got to do a better job of that. We've all got to put more work in and put more time in and put more commitment to each other," he said.
The bigger problem is that the Patriots don't have the players they once did, especially on defense. The Patriots jumped to a 14-0 lead and couldn't hold it. Young Miami quarterback Chad Henne picked them apart for 335 yards.
Brady threw for 352, but he threw two interceptions in the fourth quarter.
Running back Laurence Maroney might have been on the money when he said that Belichick stresses that New England can't live in the past.
"We're not the '07 team. We're not the '03 team or the '01 team. We're the '09 team. We have to play with what we have and make a name for ourselves," Maroney said.
But what they have isn't good enough.
Before they routed the Patriots a week ago, Saints coach Sean Peyton told his team not to be intimidated by the Patriots because they're no longer the team that won those Super Bowls.
Granted, New England has a one-game lead in its division and figures to make the playoffs, but don't look for the Patriots to go a long way once they get there or to return to the Super Bowl.
The dynasty appears to be dead.

not a big deal... 3 other guys sent home too, and it was weather-related (if I was a rich NFL player I'd drive extra slow as well this morning here).

Pats have bigger problems, like offensive play calling and lack of a pass rush.

I agree on the D line, but what about the playing calling specifically?

their play calling has been atrocious. brady in shotgun more than any other qb in football, they barely run the ball, don't throw to tight end, run when they should throw, throw when they should run, etc.

I just think they've gotten away from running screens, play action (to a lesser extent), and draws. Feel like they need to use Kevin Faulk more, as while not a superstar, he is sure handed (unlike certain other guys *COUmaroneyGH*). Also would like to see 'em go deep less often... Brady is clearly forcing it and getting intercepted, focus on controlling the clock and minimize mistakes. Realize it's not as easy as I type it, but just what I'd like to see.

I guess videotaping other teams isn't what it once used to be.

I guess that is why Bill sucked in Cleveland for 5 years, he hadn't thought about videotaping the opponent, yet.

You hit it right on the head. Nobody wants to admit that they haven't been the same winning team now that they can no longer cheat. The "genius" Belichek, as dubbed by the media, hasn't been much of a genius when his players aren't given the other teams play before the snap. He wasn't much of a genius when he was run out of Cleveland was he? Doubt they would have won any Super Bowls without the cheating. Of course, not many people want to hear this and the media stays strictly away from mentioning it.

uhm, first off - they're still a pretty good team. When folks concerns about this team, it's not because they're going to have a sub-.500 record, or because they aren't going to make the playoffs... It's because I don't see them winning the SB this year. High expectations.

Also, I remember them playing pretty well two years ago after being caught. I also remember the coaching staff did pretty well last year when their top-tier QB was out for the season. So please, feel free to make fun of the cheating & stuff - but don't be a moron & act like this team or it's coaching staff is garbage.

Nothing like have the Jets/Fins/Bills for 38% of your games.

How many times have the Bill, Jets, and Fins made the playoffs since 2000?

Also, how many SB have they won since this all came out?

Remember the Rams saying, they knew every play we ran in the red zone, like they had seen practice and we designed several new plays prior to the Super Bowl.

That still doesn't answer the question of his miserable failure in Cleveland. Also, if the Pats are the PTPs of the NFL, why haven't they been able to realize their team is older than dirt.
