I'm thinking of changing....

Your Norton 360 subscription is scheduled to expire on October 16, 2009.
As part of Norton Automatic Renewal Service, your Norton 360 subscription is scheduled to automatically renew on October 1, 2009. Symantec will automatically renew your Norton 360 subscription for 12 months by charging the regular renewal subscription fee (plus applicable taxes) to your credit or debit card. You enrolled in Norton Automatic Renewal Service when you purchased your product subscription..
You do not need to do anything! Symantec will automatically charge the regular subscription renewal fee of USD 69.99 (plus applicable taxes) to card number xxxxxxxxxxxxZZZZ. Once the payment has been processed, we will send a confirmation e-mail summarizing the charges applied, and you will receive an additional 12 months of protection.
If you wish to cancel your enrollment in Norton Automatic Renewal Service for this product subscription, please sign-in to your Norton Account at www.myNortonAccount.com and turn off the auto-renewal feature. However, turning off the auto-renewal feature may leave you unprotected from dangerous online threats unless you renew your subscription manually. You can renew your subscription manually by following the renewal prompts provided by the product. If you renew manually, please note that you must cancel your enrollment in Norton Automatic Renewal Service to avoid being charged the automatic renewal fee.

Sincerely,

Norton Customer Support

Eset NOD32 or Kaspersky Antivirus. Those are simply the best, Norton and Mcafee are the jokes of the industry.

Doug, you will probably need to do a complete system reformat/restore/recover to original factory settings to completely get rid of Norton.

I really hope your machine did not come with NORTON pre-installed because then even when you reformat NORTON will be there.

Yes it was there, for like 30 days free.

HP laptop, about 3 years old, battery has been shot for about a year. PC can't be worth too much, so I'm willing to drop Norton for a free alternative.

I think I'll just can the Norton bill, and not do a system restore.... unless I need to in order to get the other one to work.

then there is nothing you can do to totally remove it, u can restore your PC and IMMEDIATLY uninstall it.

next time you buy a computer INSIST that there are no sample softwares installed on it as possible (you cant always do this when buying at best buy etc).

Problem is, even when you uninstall norton, it still remains in some fashion, infecting, slowing down and poisonng your PC.

You dont have to do system restore of course.

But you do have to go to ADD/REMOVE programs and uninstall norton before you install anything else.

OK, you guys talked me into killing Norton.

Update Success : Automatic Renewal

You have turned off Automatic Renewal for the following products and services:
Norton 360
Norton Internet Security
Your product will prompt you to manually renew your subscription the next time it expires.

I guess I'll worry about a replacement in a month, when it expires.

Switched to NOD 32 a couple of years ago. Highly recommended. It doesn't use near the resources that Norton does.
