Why do the Networks pay so much for On-Air Play by Play people?

NBC pays Al Micheals, either 5 or 6 Million a year for broadcasting games, but honestly would still not watching if he wasn't calling the game.

Its not like they have a unique skill-set that makes them one of a select few that can do what they do?

Its not like being like Lebron or Kobe and being a extremely unique talent.

It Bob Costas being on the pregame and halftime show worth several million a year?
