I would say about 20%. Keep in mind that you probably have around 200,000-250,000 hispanic workers in the area. They dont have the funds to gamble with as a general rule.

Median household income in Vegas is very low at only $47,000. This number is a bit skewed by so many families making below $20,000 a year though. Those people wouldnt be gambling at the casino, they would be working at the casino!

I had to laugh after reading this. When I was going to
Vegas fairly regularly in the mid to late 80's, I would sometimes get into a conversation at the bar with a "local". I was usual;y told when I ask if they gambled much, the "stock" answer was that locals rarely gambled in the casinos. Now you have to realize that we were in a casino when I asked this question.

As the years went by and I continued to go to Vegas, I saw more and more casinos opening in what we would consider to be "locals" areas. I knew these casinos weren't going to be supported by out of state visitors who would normally visit ONLY the strip. So much for the claim that locals didn't gamble.

Just off the top of my head, I would estimate that there are at least 12-14 locals casinos in Vegas and surrounding area right now. And believe me, these casinos aren't being supported by any out of state visitors except maybe red rock, and Green Valley Ranch. Maybe the Rampart if you want to take into account out of state golfers.

These are fully loaded casinos with everything from slots and table games to huge sports books and everything in between like Keno and Bingo.

most would have a book of sorts, at least a kiosk.

many ( most ?) locals have never bet sports, but nearly all ( unless Mormon) have played slots, at some time.

The hotel maid making 18k is much more likely to gamble than the dentist making 180k.

Lower income is more correlated to one gambling, than higher income/education.

Vegans play, even ( esp. ?) bums.

Ain't no tourists at Arizona Charlie's , El Cortez,Western, Opera House,Poker palace,Sam's Town,etc.!

median is 47000?

I doubt its that high

That really isnt that much SS. I got the number from Wikipedia and those numbers are from 2006. It is likely to be higher now.

But thanks to DAMN OBAMA it might go lower.

But 47,000 really isnt that much at all for a city where real estate is fairly high. And we are talking about family income. I doubt that too many sports bettors could live, pay bills, take care of the family and gamble on that little of an income

Pretty much every decent size Casino and plenty of the smaller ones all have Sports Books in them. The smaller Casinos have a Leroys or perhaps a few with Luckys or Cal Neva in them.
As for the main topic of this thread, I would have to say that there are far more locals that gamble here than any other state for 2 main reasons.
First reason should be obvious that there are far more Casinos close to where one lives. Secondly there are many locals that have moved here because they love to gamble. Simple explanations but I believe them to be true.

Ask the 5000 or so residents who move out of Vegas every month....

Lot more residents gamble more than you think...lots of free promotions and giveaways by casinos to draw the locals in...

lived there a long time...

locals aren't really sports bettors, but they love VP, maybe BJ or craps, etc.

You can play for two minutes ( even one hand) coming out of the grocery store, anytime you want.

Locals play short sessions, unless total derelicts ( those exist).

They don't go to the strip.

Throwing $5 one shot into a $1 VP machine, is the local version of a scratch off lottery ticket.
