Its cars that have been traded in or used car lots that havent been able to move them...In most places you also have to be a dealer.
You wont get it ckd by a mechanic cus they only give you a few hours to walk the lot and ck em out before the auction. And usually here its cash only right then and there.
And they dont give them away, the ones that look pretty good get scooped up and the ones that have obvious probs ( ive seen em pushed thru the line) go for wat they worth, not much. If you go every week im sure you will get a great deal 1 trip or 2 but mostly its just used cars right off the lot at a wholesale price. Your laws may vary...

Is it public in AZ ?

In CT, I think it's dealer only.

Seems risky to me, but we are supposed to be gamblers, right ?

It would be tough for me to do this, if I needed a car to drive right away.

I would assume any such car has problems, and bid like it was not much more than just the body of the car ?

I'm probably way off, but I need to at least test drive a used car, then bring it to my mechanic, to check out ( for like $50-100, I forget his exact fee....I get to see it on the lift too, and he shows me areas that concern him).

I'd have to bid real low at an auction, but I don't know how this stuff works !

Are these low mileage cars, high mileage ?,etc.

Isn't this where cars find up, that you sell to a place like Carmax ?

like an 8 year old Accord with 220k miles type of car ?, or do these get sent to Mexico, CR, etc ?

yea doug it was a little uncomfortable at first. i am the same as you, need to have the car inspected by a mechanic, test drive, carmax etc. but they are cheap enough that you can afford to put a little money in and still come out with a good deal. but i do think it is somewhat of a gamble

I got a nice Honda Accord several years back.I was happy with the purchase.
If you don't know much about cars take along a buddy that does if possible.Check out the cars before they get up on the block so you already have a few that you've inspected and you're really interested in when the bidding starts. Also,if you find something on the yard that you really really like, try to find the owner and cut a deal with him before it goes to auction, you can save the auction fee that way too.
