damn, i just watched the vid, didn't read the article yet.

How many people were getting hit with boards, looked like at least 3 i seen. And it looked like it was right outside a school. Wasn't any security around or anything. Kids all looked like they were in school type uniform clothing.
Also didn't see a white person till that dude in jeans shorts at the end.

horrible. Seeing that kid get hit on the head by the board made my stomach weak. I'm glad they at least blurred it out when they were beating him while he was on the ground.

I mean these are kids! This shit looked like a scene for a video game, hitting people over the heads with boards then stomping someone when they are down. Hope they get what they deserve...lifetime + beatings in jail

The area is on the south side of Chicago, people refer to it as the wild wild 100's. Its around 110th and Halsted. Unfortunately this kinda shit happens all the time throughout the entire city. Hard to play it down to the media when they have the tape and an honor roll student.

If you notice the guy with his shirt off get hits with the board from the dude in the black shirt.. the deceased was also wearing a black shirt, but it was the wrong guy.

Mistaken identity. The school had just started a turn around program this year.

Parents should be held accountable - and ya, I know its virtually impossible to do so, unfortunatly. I guess a few of the guys were 18-plus though huh? They need to be given life (the real life, not the fake kind).

Awful awful shit going on... Country is hurting and the lack of jobs for unskilled workers are so few and far between. Areas that are depressed now are only going to get worse.

Thats what started the shit. They're called projects. Granted when a different element of immigrants came into them they weren't third and fourth generation. Some people want out, put their kids in catholic schools and out of the area.

Gangs started, recruited.. problem with this area is the proximity of rivals. nobody backing down and raising a white flag.

I'm all for when I have kids keeping them away from drugs, gangs, and the areas they are. Except, like gambling, people will do whatever for their vices, and do whatever to supply them

nice thing about gambling, is the people running it, most of them aren't out getting high and can provide the fix, or pay out.

Detroit is the most dangerous city in the US. FBI Report from 2006.

The Motor City experienced 418 cases of murder and non-negligent manslaughter in 2006. That's 47.3 murders per every 100,000 residents. Detroit also ranked high for violent crime (No. 2), robbery (No. 4) and forcible rape (No. 12).

To put it in perspective: Detroit's murder rate is more than 8% higher than the country's second most murderous city, Baltimore, and eight times that of the least murderous metro. More people were murdered in Detroit than in San Antonio, San Diego, Dallas and San Jose combined--and each one of those cities has a bigger population than Detroit.

Baltimore had 276 cases of murder and non-negligent manslaughter in 2006, or 43.3 murders per 100,000 residents. It came in at No. 5 for violent crime, No. 9 for robbery and No. 62 for rape. And the No. 3 city, New Orleans, had 162 murders, or 37.6 murders per 100,000 people; it ranked No. 59 for violent crime, No. 60 for robbery and No. 65 for rape. Rounding out the top five: Newark, N.J. and St. Louis.

Safety In Numbers
Surprisingly, the country's biggest cities aren't usually the most dangerous. Out of the 10 most murderous cities in America, only one, Philadelphia, has a population over 1 million.

America's biggest metro, New York City, is also one of its safest; with a murder rate of 7.3 per 100,000 people, it comes in at No. 50 on a list of the 72 American cities with a population over 250,000.

It's important to note that even though some cities may have comparatively high murder rates, crime is, on the average, down in the U.S over the last two decades. Over that period, the homicide rate in the U.S. has fallen from a 1991 peak of 9.8 murders per 100,000 people, to just 5.7 in 2006.

Still, fearful citizens may find themselves wondering just where they can hide from the wrath of their neighbors. They might want to try the least homicidal big city in America: Plano, Texas, which had only four murders in 2006, a rate of 1.6 murders per 100,000 residents.

Not to be a prick, but this kind of shit makes me glad I live in Canada. We have crime of course, but not to this degree.

Words can not describe the disgust after watching this. They were talking about the video this am on Lex & Terry. I was not even going to watch but curiosity got the best of me. Who in their right mind could actually do this? Sad to say, but I don't think anything can be done with any of these people to rehabilitate. That is a very sad comment for me to make but once you cross this line in your head (to beat a defenseless person on the ground while bleeding with a 2X6) I truly believe there is no going back. I agree the parents should be held accountable BUT, more than likely, they are a major part of the problem as well. No one is held accountable anymore.

Very very sad video..

the real question is what is the city/state to do about this? Where does a community go at this point? how do you curb this way of life, while still abiding by the laws of the land? Not just in Chicago, but in Baltimore (where the drug-trade is largely responsible for the problems) and other similar places.

answers along the lines of "let them kill each other" will draw a deaf ear because as cities continue to expand, we may not have to live with this type of oppressive poverty/violence - but sadly our children might.
