More information below

I am 24, almost 25. I am 6'2, 250lbs

I am at my largest weight ever, and have gained 40 pounds in less than 2 years. I was tiny throughout high school and started gaining in College and it continued.

I think it happened because I work on a computer a lot. I use to eat fast food 7 times a week. I play alot of poker.

I have been taking it in steps to try to improve myself. I finally am eating better food, myself out this wieght. I am willing to do things to make a difference. but no where near great. I only eat fast food once a week. My girlfriend and I are terrible cooks and. We only have a few dishes that we both enjoy, so it gets repetitive. Fast food is cheap and convinent. I drink mainly just water.

Since these changes, I have stopped gaining weight, but I am not comfortbable with my current weight. I am ready for the next step.

I don't really have access to a gym, and I would like to run outside, but it will be getting cold.

used to eat fast food 7 times a week or currently do? cut fast food, at all costs. exercise 5 times a week if you can (meaning hit the gym). diet is the most important thing, cardio is next on the list. clean up your diet to lean proteins\complex carbs. try to avoid starchy foods and saturated\trans fats. when you do cardio, do light-medium intensity jogging\cycling for 35+ minutes (otherwise you aren't touching your fat storages). i'd advise an endurance based weight lifting program to lean out. meaning 15+ rep sets of any given exercise. just the basics...cut down your drinking if you do that, too. drink a lot of water.

Eat 5-6 small meals a day (300 or so calories each meal) and lift weights 3-4 times a week. Drink no calories drinks (water, diet drinks). Be as active as you can whether it be walking to the store instead of driving, playing sports, mowing grass, jogging, riding a bike, etc - be as active as possible. I went from 265 to 215 in like 7-8 months and it really wasn't hard. Once you get into a program and dedicate yourself to it, it becomes part of your normal life. There are better websites than this to gain advice from - do a search for fitness or health message boards. Good luck man.

Well I'll offer what I can.. I've lost over 85 pounds and planning on losing more.

The first thing is, you have to realize that losing weight is a not a quick fix ordeal, its a lifestyle change..

I recommend completely cutting out soda, fast food, junk food and chips completely out of your diet. Those are basically empty calories that don't satisfy you..

On an average day this is what I consume..

Large bowl of cereal for breakfast, a large juice for lunch, And a dinner where the main course in either Fish or Chicken with a large salad and a big portion of vegetable..

Sometimes in between or late at night I'll have a small snack, I've really cut my portions with snack foods, I still eat them but I eat like two bites of a snickers, half a pop tart, or a bite or two of a cookie..

Exercise, I walk a lot.. I walk pretty much everyday to the store, to get water, to pay my cell phone bill.. I walk fast too. I also lift small weights but I'm not consistent with it.

I also drink a lot of water, it suppresses your appetite to a certain extent.

But the most important thing is KNOWING and REALIZING that its not a quick fix, its gotta be a LIFESTYLE CHANGE..

Trust me losing weight is good for your health and its even better for your soul.. The comments that come with it are great, it feels good having people that haven't seen me in a long time telling me I look good and having a couple of girls here and there flirt with me on the street..

Also if you are eating less, make sure to take a multivitamin so you are getting all your minerals and vitamins you might be going w/o..

Anything else let me know.

Good Information.. Thanks.. I understand its a lifestyle change. That's why I took so long to change things. I want to make sure I stick with it. I dirnk 6-8 bottles of water every day.. I still eat some fast food, but wayy less than I should. I am ready to make the next step. I am just clueless how.

I think my next goal is to make a meal plan and really stick to it and see how it changes. I am not only a terrible cook though, I am rather picky.

Jim,

The last 25 or so pounds I've lost in the past 4 months came off w/o me even trying.. You're are so right about it becoming a part of your normal life, its really not that hard..

The only part that is somewhat difficult is when its late at night and you get the munchines.. Other than that I don't feel deprived..

Do you have any idea of how many calories you are consuming each day?

Its basically a numbers game, if you are consuming less than 1700 calories a day you are going to lose weight, if you are consuming 2000-2300 calories you are going to stay the same. If you are consuming 2500 -3000 a day than you are going to gain weight especially without any exercise..

- Start trying new places. Instead of pizza and burgers, get Chinese, Mexican, and Subway.

- Learn to love water. Consume at least 64 ounces of H2O on a daily basis. If possible, drink nothing but water.

- Do your best to limit your sugar input.

- Best way to burn calories is short sprints opposed to long walks / runs. Find a track or a place where you can sprint 50/100 yards on and off.

Eat nothing but protein and vegetables. You said you would like to run ... 5000m every day

That's it. Those two steps and you will lose 30 pounds quickly, guaranteed

What are the odds that eating pizza and wasting time on the computer are more important to you?

You & I are the same height. BUT I'm 226 and have been weight training for nearly 25 years.

First off, ditch the fast food once a week.

Long distance running is NOT good for you.
Run for around 20-30 min with intervals.
(Steady pace for 5min then burst for 1 min.)

You need weight training to mix in.

Make your first meal (Breakfast) your largest of the day.
Mine for instance is a 4-5 Egg Omlette with diced Ham and on the side I have a cup of Oatmeal.

Invest in Whey Protein Powder.

Everything he said.

Drink tons of water, cut out soda. Eat several smaller meals through-out the day. Probably like 6-7 meals. These must be healthy none of that fast-food crap.

The most important thing in any life-change or diet is to stay dedicated.
