basically im amazed nebraska is 1 big play away from being a top5 team this year and the blackshirt defense looks like they are back after a few years of being downright terrible...and as a fan of the program the only real change has been the hiring of Bo Pelini as head coach...i started thinking of other programs and it seems to be a recurring theme....USC got Carroll and he took them to the top after years of being mediocre....OU got Stoops and ditto...MICH just got Rodriquez and he has that team moving in the right direction....i cant believe the turnaround ive seen from this team in under 2 seasons...its amazing...

I put a great deal of stock in head coaches, especially in football more then any other sport. I was praying Syracuse would have hired Pelini 4 years ago, but they decided to hire Greg Robinson instead. What followed was 4 years of hell. Syracuse hasn't had any where near the success as Nebraska this season, being in much worse shape, but I am confident their new head coach, Doug Marrone will turn the program around. You have a winner in Pelini. I would have been ecstatic if Syracuse made that hire 4 years ago.

Head coaches mean everything to college programs. For example this year alone...look at Washington (Beat USC) and Mississippi State (A QB sneak away from beating LSU). These two teams would have lost by 30 or more points if the same coaches would have still been in place using the same players.

A typical starter will move on after two years. The only constant is the head coach. To say it is the only thing that is important wouldn't be too much of an exaggeration

Yeah in college QB and Head coach are probably two of the most important things

All the great teams have a great coach and a great QB....

that is EXACTLY what i am talking about...same players...same perceived talent on the field...change the head coach and you go from losing by 30 to winning the game...its really remarkable...

Ron Zook. Look how dominant Florida is after Ron Zook got fired. Illinois hasn't covered a betting line all year and most of last year.

NCAA Football Coach probably has more influence on whether a team wins and loses long term, then coaches in any other league or sports.

Reason I think this.
1. THere is no draft in the NCAA's if 65 of the best players in the country want to play for you they can. You could argue NCAA bball but since you only can take 15 players, there is a lot more left for others, that and with everyone leaving early it makes it even less important. I might be off on the # of free rides it might be 85 and 12.

very important.

before stoops came to ou, we had a guy named brandon danials who our coach -- john blake -- was using to QB the option. needless to say, it wasn't working out.

when stoops came to ou, they used danials as a kick returner and wide receiver, and he put up great numbers. so i not only think coaches are very important to the success of a team, i think they're very important to the success of the individual athlete.
