I believe some at the BCS or the "Non BCS" is messing with the football fans of this nation again. Boise State is ranked above USC, Ohio State, Miami, Penn State, Oklahoma, Georgia and fifty other schools who play other schools with football teams.
How did that happen?
Boise State's schedule:
- Oregon: Who Boise played on the circus-like Blue Turf. That is their one decent game on their schedule.
- Miami (Ohio)
- Fresno State: Proving that they will "play anyone, anywhere."
- Bowling Green: Sounds like a place in Ireland.
- UC Davis: A California research school. Maybe Boise State was hoping that UC Davis could find a cure for their anemic recruiting program (ranked as 81st in the nation by RIVALS).
- Tulsa: Why not Mayberry?
- Hawaii: Hey, only if your school is on the west coast, do you have an excuse to play these guys.
- San Jose State: The second best football team that Boise will face.
- Louisiana Tech: They are the exclusive "schedule pad" of the SEC. You only get one of those schools a season and Boise, you've filled your schedule with them.
- Idaho: Only if you're looking for potatoes. It's a stretch if you say you want to play football.
- Utah State: Another Non BCS school seeking justice by playing teams without uniforms, equipment, coaches, seating for their fans, and most important, national ranking.
- Nevada: Come on Boise! No more padding your schedule. This is way out of line here! Give it up! You are not a national football power if you play teams like this.
- New Mexico: Why not "Old Mexico" or "Future Mexico?"
Mr. and Ms. Boise State football: You can't play so many dead-beats without being looked at as dead yourselves. Does the saying, "If you lay down with dogs, you will get fleas" mean anything to you?
Mr. and Ms. Boise State: I don't wish to offend your football team. I just wish to apply a little common sense to a growing cry of why Non BCS teams are not considered to be worthy of playing for the BCS Championship.
UC Davis is located in California and is a research institute. They have a football team, but not really a football team. They have uniforms, but they aren't expected and never do play well.
Why has your school (Boise State) scheduled them and schools like them to play football games?
UC Davis 2009 football schedule:
- Fresno State: Watch out Fresno State, you are popping up on too many FCS schedules.
- Montana: Nice place for a hike or to hunt bear, but no football is played there.
- Western Oregon: Next season it will probably be North by Northwest Oregon.
- Boise State: Wow! This is fantastic for UC Davis. They get to play a team that has fooled the voters.
- South Dakota: Give me time. It's coming.
- Winston-Salem State: Now please. This is now off the road. However, I do know why this school will never play Florida. It's west of the Mississippi River and everyone knows the Gators don't travel. They are west of the Mississippi River, aren't they?
- Portland-State: I think having the word "State" follow the first name is bad.
- Southern-Utah: Bet you hadn't heard of that school. UC Davis had to do research to find it.
- CAL POLY, San Luis Obispo: Hey, that's where I live. It's a great school for agriculture and engineering. It's not to be confused as the "soul" of college football.
- North Dakota: I told you it was coming. If you play South Dakota, you might as well play North Dakota. However, to save gas for the team bus, they should have had a double-header. Oh, didn't I tell you that UC Davis was a "Green-School." There's no way they would fly and pollute the air. They travel by a natural gas bus or bicycle, when possible.
- Sacramento State: Yup, you guessed it. They put a cap on the season with a bicycle ride to the State Capitol chanting "We're Bak" in honor of Governor Arnold.
There is no reason to believe that Boise State could play with the "big boys" week to week. None what so-ever. However, the media (ESPN) and the like, are trying to fill their 24 hour a day news cycle and Internet Blogs with...crappy ideas.
Now, the coaches have been pounded on for so long that they are starting to feel the pressure of needing to put a Non BCS school in the BCS Title game. Nonsense, ignorance, gutless and the desire of wanting to be a "Metro" man all figure into the voters ranking Boise State as they did.
I'll just give a couple of facts that the "costume ball football field" people can't deny.
USC is ranked below you. USC has twice as many players (from their 2008 team) who now start in the NFL than you have recruits committed to play for your school next year.
Where is your quarterback from the past three years? Where is he now playing? Can I have that question applied to all who graduated from your team last year?
I've followed USC football closely for over 50 years and I don't recall any player going to Boise State that USC wanted on their team. I could be mistaken, but how many times?
I used USC as the example, but the BIG-10. ACC, BIG-6, BIG-12 and the SEC should all be offended by the ranking of Boise State.
The truth be known, if Boise State can be considered for the BCS Title game, why shouldn't CAL POLY, San Luis Obispo?
World science dictates that "a single parcel cannot be concluded as the worth of the whole." Likewise, a single game (Oregon) cannot be concluded as the worth of Boise State football.
Logic, science, common sense, screams out to the voters that Boise State is not worthy to be ranked with the best teams of college football. If Boise State is the sixth best college team in the nation, then college football has fallen quicker than the dollar.
It's truly the time to watch the NFL, nothing in college is worth the bother.

Well, another week of college football has passed in the 2009 season, and already I am tired of hearing about why TCU and Boise State deserve a shot at the BCS title. It's friday night, and I am watching Boise blow out another inferior WAC opponent.

Three Reasons Why TCU and Boise State Don't Deserve BCS Bowl Bids

To make matters worse, the conference commissioner is groveling for support to get Boise
State a title shot. As I'm listening, even this commish doesn't sound like he is convinced they deserve one. In fact, anyone who knows anything about college football knows these two teams don't belong anywhere near the Top Ten, let alone the top 5. There are a few reasons for this.

1. Both Teams Play In Conferences That Have Inferior Talent And Depth - The WAC and the Mountain West conferences are not BCS automatic qualifiers for those two reasons. The BCS automatic qualifying conferences have better talent and depth overall than do these two. Case in point: There are currently only four schools from BCS automatic qualifiers that are currently undefeated. There will only be three left, or possibly two by the time bowl games are announced. That's because the BCS schools play conference schedules against teams that test them for the most part week in and week out. Yes, there are blowouts here and there, but when you get an unranked Tennessee team that almost knocks off #2 Alabama at home, or an unranked Oklahoma almost upsetting #3 Texas, it tends to weed out the championship contenders from the championship pretenders. Bottom line, if TCU played in the Big 12 and Boise State played in the Pac 10, I would be writing about who would be in line to replace Charlie Weis, not these two pretenders.

2. Neither Team Played A Tough Out Of Conference Schedule - TCU had an average Non Mountain West schedule, beating a terrible Virginia team and then a mediocre Clemson squad. The rest of their out of conference slate, wins over Texas State and SMU were underwhelming. Boise State is hanging their hat on the opening night victory over #13 Oregon, but the blowout wins over cupcakes Miami of Ohio, Bowling Green and UC Davis are a joke.

3. Their Victories Against "Ranked" Opponents Are Suspect - TCU has beaten two ranked teams from it's own conference. The second and third place teams, Utah and BYU haven't played yet, which means one of those "Ranked" teams TCU beat won't be after the two play. To make matters worse, the
Three Reasons Why TCU and Boise State Don't Deserve BCS Bowl Bids six teams behind TCU, Utah and BYU have a combined conference record of 12-25. Boise State did beat a ranked opponent (Oregon) from a major conference, but hasn't played a team with any talent even close to Oregon's since.

The bottom line for both TCU and Boise State is, either join a BCS automatic qualifying conference, or schedule each other in the future so we only have to hear from one conference begging to get in the national championship game.

I will state the obvious. Boise, don't play cupcakes or join a new conference. That simple. And yes, they do have the potential to join a new conference like the Pac 10

Snap Judgments: BCS deck remains stacked against Boise State

http://si.printthis.clickability.co..._staples/11/27/snap.judgments/&partnerID=2356
Boise State's win against Nevada on Friday gave the Broncos their second consecutive WAC title, and it left the Broncos with a game next week against horrendous New Mexico State to complete a second consecutive undefeated regular season.
After Friday's win, Boise State coach Chris Petersen told ESPN the Broncos have done everything asked of them. "Let's hope the system works like it should," he said.
That's exactly why Petersen should worry.
If the system works as designed, the BCS bowls will protect the interests of the six conferences that designed the system 11 years ago. If that happens, a two-loss team from a big-six conference (either Oklahoma State, Iowa or Penn State) will get picked instead of the Broncos. This would happen because the power-conference schools will bring more fans to the stadium and provide more eyeballs for the television broadcast.
So the Broncos will spend Saturday pulling for the team they vanquished in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl (hereafter referred to as The Greatest Game Ever Played) to give them a legitimate shot at playing in a BCS bowl. That's right, Boise State needs Oklahoma to beat Oklahoma State to increase the Broncos' chances of getting selected as an at-large team.
If you've read my weekly power rankings, you know I don't think much of Boise State's schedule, which featured an opener against Oregon and not much else. But if Oregon beats Oregon State and wins the Pac-10 title Thursday, Boise State would have a win against an BCS conference champ. Neither Oklahoma State, Penn State nor Iowa could make that claim.
But under the current system, that doesn't matter. What matters is protecting the interests of the bowls, which don't always jibe with the best interests of the game in general.
Backyard Brawl a good game -- but didn't mean much

Great win by West Virginia in the Backyard Brawl on Friday. West Virginia coach Bill Stewart showed a lot of faith in his freshman kicker, and Tyler Bitancurt rewarded that faith by booting a 43-yard field goal as time expired to give the Mountaineers a 19-16 win.
So what does it all mean for the Big East? Not much. The game had no effect on the conference title race. Cincinnati (11-0, 6-0 Big East) and Pitt (9-2, 5-1) will play for the title next week.
Then what does it mean for Cincinnati's national title hopes? Also not much. With a win at Pitt, Cincinnati still probably would leapfrog TCU in the computer and human polls that determine the BCS rankings. Jerry Palm, the publisher of CollegeBCS.com, confirmed Friday that Pitt's Brawl loss will have no effect on Cincy's computer rankings. Why? Because the computers evaluate all of a team's opponents, and the Bearcats also play the Mountaineers. So no matter what happened in the Brawl, one of Cincy's opponents was going to win, and one was going to lose. That doesn't mean human voters won't notice, but the difference probably wouldn't change anything. Basically, the Bearcats must win and hope for a Texas loss.
So what about West Virginia? The Mountaineers still need to beat Rutgers next week, but they've put themselves in a good bowl position. West Virginia probably will go to the Gator Bowl if Cincy wins and Notre Dame -- which would be eligible for the Gator at 7-5 -- loses at Stanford. If Pitt wins, Cincinnati probably would go to the Gator, and West Virginia probably would play in its second consecutive Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte.
The trouble with Tweets

One more thing about the Brawl, and it involves my favorite Twitter feed, @InsidetheBCS. Last week, a Tweep named Michael James chummed the water with the following tweet to the official Twitter feed of the cartel that controls big-time college football's national title: "Pitt/WVU matter much? Not at all. RT @INSIDEtheBCS More than any other sport, the regular season is the most critical...Each week matters."
The hapless intern -- or whoever -- handling the feed took the bait. Here's the response: @mrjames2006 Pitt-WVU matters a lot because Pitt's vying for the Big East championship with Cincinnati and faces UC next week.
My guess is that particular intern went back to stuffing envelopes after contradicting one of the BCS honchos' favorite talking points. If you follow college football even a little bit, you knew the Brawl had no effect on the Big East race.
Naturally, fans -- and a certain SI.com writer -- piled on. The vitriol was pointed and hilarious. Like a good propaganda machine, the PR firm behind the BCS feed ignored this inconvenient presentation of actual fact.
